Well, KMail is still KDE4 based, so you have to have KDE4's wallet configured properly. But if it worked before the upgrade, that should be the case I suppose. i had to create a new user because of a kded problem killed access to my

Question is, how can i get either get rid of kwallet or make it remember the password. I've tried using kwallet manager but it does not allow me to update as it, "Sorry, the system security policy didn't allow you to save the changes."
That sounds like the cause of your problem. Is your user session registered properly with logind? loginctl should tell. It doesn;t show any errors
Maybe you have a wrong PAM configuration too? Please check whether there are .rpmnew files in /etc/pam.d/, and also check that you are not using the deprecated pam_unix2.so any more. I'm not sure whether this could cause such a problem though. I've never touched pam at all, just used what comes out of the box but there is a rpmnew in the directory dated 25 Sept 2014
Is there a page somewhere stating what we should do if we have the confusing mix of Kde4 and Plasma 5 apps etc?
I'm not aware of one, but the mix should actually be ok. So its just that some of the menu entries are pointing to the wrong version?
