[opensuse-factory] perl > 5.18.x for leap 42.1?
[offtopic] Folks, is there a leap 42.1 repository where I could get a Perl version newer than 5.18 (which is already a few years old)? I'm bitten by a regexp bug http://stackoverflow.com/questions/39566000/perls-0-produces-unexpected-resu... and would like to get RPMs instead of compiling it by myself... Perl in Leap comes from SLE. You may try filing a bug report to get the fix backported. cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Ok, will probably do. However, in most cases, there are some (more or less) private repositories for Leap that hold recent versions of often used tools like Perl. It seems such a repo is missing – hopefully it's just me who can't find it, and you are able to point me to it :-) Werner

You mean something like this one http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/devel:/languages:/perl/ openSUSE_Leap_42.1 But it's not me that show you where the pandora box is :-)) -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch Bareos Partner, openSUSE Member, fsfe fellowship GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Well, *this* one I've found, but it doesn't offer perl 5.20 or newer, to my great surprise. Werner

Not mine, changing perl as core component to a release would be called a suicide. Maintainers of this repo are clever enough to not publish a newer perl except for TW or factory -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch Bareos Partner, openSUSE Member, fsfe fellowship GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Pfft. The binary could be called `perl-5.20'. There's also `gcc-5', for example. Werner -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

But all the perl modules would need to be built for both perls. Perl-5.20 is most likely not ABI compatible to perl-5.18. While true, the same holds for other developer's packages, e.g., mplayer and its suite of associated video and audio libraries. Note that I don't complain, I'm just surprised – openSuSE is a volunteer thing, I'm fully aware of that. Werner
