[opensuse-factory] tumbleweed repoes in installation from scratch
Hi, I started with SuSE Linux 17 years ago, used it for about 10 years, then has used other distroes since. So I tumbled upon Stumbleweed (pun intended :-) and yesterday made an installation from scratch with the netinstall iso on my old notebook (thinkpad X40) - the installation went perfect, and I like it so far, having worked with it this morning. I have an issue, though, with the documentation (https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Tumbleweed_installation): I understand the section:"From Scratch" so, that following it will leave me with a Tumbleweed rolling release installation. But the repo list from my installation differs from the list in the section:"Upgrade". I have only one repo with tumbleweed in it, the other five are 'regular' factory repoes, whereas the list from "Upgrade" has only repoes with tumbleweed. Shouldn't the repoes in a clean install be the same as if I upgraded? Am I missing or misunderstanding something? Should I both install from scratch _and_ follow the instructions in "Upgrade"? Thanks in advance. -- Regards Vagn Bjørno -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

What I find works best for me(!tm): You only need two repos for Tw OSS NON-OSS Of course I add other Tw repos for specific packages related to my whims :^) and Tw is atm *supposed* to be equal to Factory But at some upcoming date, to stay with Tw, repos will have to be changed from Factory. Supposed to be announced here. Simpler approach is to start go with Tw and ignore Factory. I recently borked my system and to recover was forced to wipe and start clean. I used a 13.2 usb-stick and after finishing to inital boot, changed my repos to only Tw and did: zypper ref zypper -v dup My recovery appears successful and now I am making desired adjustments. Usual cravats apply :^), gud luk -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
Thanks Patrick for your information, I've changed the repos according to this. zypper dup went OK. BTW, I apologize for having posted the problem here - I was in a hurry then, so I hadn't looked for other options - I think the forums would be the proper place for the question. Sorry for the inconvenience. -- Regards Vagn Bjørno On 2015-01-05 17:49, Patrick Shanahan wrote:

No, this *is* the proper place to discuss "Tumbleweed", no apologies necessary. And it is *not* an inconvenience, you gave ample information and had researched and discussing your problem is one of the main functions of this list. And thanks for noting "SOLVED" in the Subject: line. Makes it much easier to find answers when researching the mail archives. gud luk -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
