[opensuse-factory] ext3 140GB takes 23 min
Is it normal that it takes 23 min to format a 140GB partitioan with ext3? Good chance you are running into bug 220200, beside other reasons. Unless your happening takes place after installation. In that case I would assume some hardware and/or partition table problem.
