[opensuse-factory] All factory lists, what to do with them?
http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory-base List of the developers of the openSUSE:Factory devel project Base:System Last post: http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory-base/2009-08/date.html http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory-graphics List of the developers of the openSUSE:Factory devel project graphics The only post: http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory-graphics/2009-10/date.html http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory-mozilla List of the developers of the openSUSE:Factory devel project mozilla Last post: http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory-mozilla/2010-10/date.html It seems that creating developers lists wasn't that big success. Only the last one has few entries in 2010, and majority of conversation was in: http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory-mozilla/2010-09/msg00000.html In my humble, we should get rid of all in order not to confuse unsuspecting potential developers, that would like to contribute to development version, but after review of mail lists find there is no activity and just go away. I know that mail lists are not the only way to check project activity, but imagine someone that checks 4-5 projects, with intention to join the one. How much time and thoughts one will give to project with dead development mail lists. Nowadays, no one will hunt down development communication channels, when some other places offer clear pointer to development communication. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

+1 Independent of this particular case we might have to consider some simple rules under which conditions we create a new openSUSE list. Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team SUSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany

I'm writing email to open a discussion on opensuse-project list about the mail lists in general. We have to take new approach on this. Mail lists are advertised as main communication channel, so they have to be in a good shape, otherwise we will confuse people trying to use them. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

+1 the community is too easily fractured by having lots of little used lists. One easy example is this email which I believe should have gone to opensuse-project, but because not all the developers involved are there, it was sent here instead. I suspect factory should have description of: "Where discussions about the next Opensuse release take place. It is the key list for subscribing to if you want to interact with the opensuse developer community in general. Other community development lists are specialized and will typically have smaller subscriber base to interact with." Overall I'm for sublists, but only if the list gets some dozens of emails a year is it worth maintaining as a standalone entity. Please discuss this on the respective lists. Not here. Henne -- Henne Vogelsang, openSUSE. Everybody has a plan, until they get hit. - Mike Tyson -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
