[opensuse-factory] Status: Milestone3
Hi, Today is supposed to be the release of Milestone3. But as I still haven't got green light from testing team (and they are on red because of the kernel OOPS with rc6) I would like to delay the release. There are live cds released as build126 and factory that report itself as Milestone3 and I hope we can get the kernel problem out till early next week. The problem is that RC6 boots fine for both me and Jeff, so we need more data on what the problem is. Greetings, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Strange, works fine with me. What kind of login failure do you see? Do you have setup the keyboard correctly? I have the same - just wait a couple of minutes and then it will work. Frederic pointed me to systemd-analyze, but I didn't really look into it yet. Solved it using that tool: I had to chkconfig -f network off - systemd would start NetworkManager in parallel to the init script. Of course you first have to have the patience and wait 5 minutes for the timeout to hit to login and call systemd-analyze plot > t.svg; firefox t.svg Greetings, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I don't think that's what he asked at all. I think he's asking about DVD isos, as I'm pretty sure he knows about Factory repos and network installation. I'm having issues too - Build 132, and several previous builds as well. I can boot/run the KDE LiveCD with no problems, but after installing from a running Live session, it fails on boot. I get a series of kernel panics and then a complete hard lock (with a dump to terminal, but locked solid, so haven't been able to capture the output). I thought so. The dump looks like a kernel dump. We can try installing M2, and ensure that the repos are pointing to Factory. Then run "zypper dup". I have actually just cracked that, working round, with the Net Build 132 CD. # cat /etc/issue Welcome to openSUSE 12.1 "Asparagus" Milestone 3 - Kernel \r (\l). # uname -a Linux fir 3.0.0-rc6-2-vanilla #1 SMP Wed Jul 6 22:58:01 UTC 2011 (56e99da) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux So what I did was boot Build 132 Net CD, then hit F5 (HTTP option) and change the repo from "distribution/12.1/repo" to "factory/repo". Then with software manager in install, I added kernel-vanilla. Reboot via Bios, then select the Vanilla option in GRUB and continue with 1st Configuration. Right, I've alrady upgraded fine and running with 3.0-rc7 from Head right now :) Tumbleweed Kernel:HEAD rc6 worked for me though, so I was suprised I hit the crash with 3.0 rc6 desktop. Right, I've alrady upgraded fine and running with 3.0-rc7 from Head right now :) Tumbleweed Kernel:HEAD rc6 worked for me though, so I was suprised I hit the crash with 3.0 rc6 desktop.

Now that is very cool! I'm going to give it a go. I've always liked a fast no muss no fuss boot :-) -- Cheers! Roman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

and using a different Base:System or other kernel (vanilla or rc7 from Kernel:HEAD) helped.

I've just installed M3 on one of my laptops and it's working fine (on Kernel 3.0-rc 7)... all previous boot issues discussed here seem to be fixed. I did run into one bug https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=702461 Switching to Traditional ifup in YaST Network is a reasonable workaround until the bug is fixed. As noted in the bug report, installing the Gnome applet is also a usable workaround. Larry -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I wouldn't call it usable.... at least not on my install. I installed and launched the Gnome applet, and on first launch, each available WiFi node was drawn at about 900% zoom (took up the entire screen to show 2 WiFi nodes of about 20 available... it was scrollable at least). It crashed when I attempted to connect. Launched again and everything was normal sized, but it crashed on connect. Launched again, and all was back to 900% zoom, and it still crashed on connect. At this point, I switched over to "Traditional ifup" using YaST and everything worked correctly. I didn't spend any time trying to figure out why the Gnome NetworkManager applet was zoomed 900% two out of three times I launched it. Where is MS3 for testing? I have time to try in a virtualbox on my machine. The very first email in this thread said,

Waiting for M3 myself :)
But then Dale Ritchey and Andreas Jaeger stated that it works for them meaning that it is available somewhere - which is what Patrick is asking for.

http://download.opensuse.org/factory/iso/ If you use the net install make sure the repository is factory and not openSUSE 12.1. I think f4 on the boot screen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
