[opensuse-factory] Virtualbox is looking for dedicated maintainer
Hello everybody, I am looking for some volunteers to be tortured^W^W have fun with working on virtualbox package. Overall I am not using the package at all and I just tried to fix some things here and there because we use guest-addons on one SLE product. Rest of the package does not make me interested at all so I would rather see community to handle it. People tend to report bugs against the package and since I am not using it the work is bit tedious to get some results... And it bit annoys me that 6 out of 25 bugs assigned to me are to package which I am not interested or supposed to work on :) https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=939299 https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=939432 https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=929697 https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=935900 https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=931377 https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=938408 Any takers? Tom

As no one seems to have volunteered for this, I will. I am a VirtualBox user, and I am interested in keeping it working. Send a private E-mail telling me what steps need to be taken. Is this an indication there is, at most, a badly written or non-existent document on how to become an openSUSE.org maintainer? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Hi is this genuine question, complaint, are you volunteering to update documentation or just a rant? I am honestly not able to tell. Also what is this "openSUSE.org maintainer"? Cheers Martin

I'm sorry for the confusion, I was confused by the request to send a private E-mail containing instructions as to how to become an openSUSE.org maintainer of a package. It seems to me such a process should be well documented by someone already working as a documentation maintainer and thus should only need a link returned in an email to get the volunteer (Thank you, Larry, by the way.) started. If there is no such documentation and it can be developed in the openSUSE.org wiki, I would entertain working with someone who has used the process to develop such a document, since I have yet to ferret out the process. While writing this response, I have received Greg Freemeyer's response. From what he has posted, it appears there is no such document. No wonder I haven't worked it out for myself, yet. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Hmmph it seems that there is some documentation, but somehow outdated - https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:How_to_contribute_to_Factory#How_to_become_... Martin

To be honest, I think originally Greg did not need to be told how to maintain a package in FACTORY but about the specifics of the virtualbox package (which is a pretty non-standard package, to say the least). -- Stefan Seyfried "For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for nature cannot be fooled." -- Richard Feynman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, virtualbox is a non-standard package. With Tom's help and a read of the .spec file, I have figured it out and pushed updated packages for both 13.1 and 13.2.
