Hi
With this release all my desktop and panel icons have been replaced with what looks like a temporary icon in black and white and if you mouse over them, it gives a tooltip of "xxxxxx.desktop" e.g "opera.desktop"
Widgets seem okay, the show desktop is still showing the correct icon.
Any ideas?
Regards
Ian

maybe graphics driver, try: systemctl isolate multi-user systemctl isolate graphical

Did you logout and login again? (or reboot)
Also, deleting the icon cache (the file ~/.cache/icon-cache.kcache) may help with the icon problem at least (not the tooltips). This needs a logout/login cycle too of course to have effect.
I haven't seen any such problems here on my 13.2 or 42.2 systems with the additional KDE repos (so I did get all KDE related updates before they landed in Tumbleweed)...
Kind Regards, Wolfgang

Thanks, that didn;t make any difference. Looks like a delete and re-add manually. I wonder why this latest release caused it though

Latest release? You are using Plasma 5.9 *beta*... (and no, this is *not* in Tumbleweed, which still has the stable 5.8.5)
Apparently I misunderstood your problem though. This seems to be about Icon plasmoids, and I don't have such on my desktop/panels (I thought you were talking about icons in the application menu and/or your desktop folder). So I cannot tell really whether this is a general problem or not.
It's likely related to the fact that those Icon plasmoids have been reworked in 5.9 to bring back the properties dialog. This involved a change into how they store their "settings" and a migration thereof. You might have experienced a glitch in this migration, or something like that.
Kind Regards, Wolfgang

Just discovered that myself, forgot the no-allow-vendor-change.

I found that if i clicked the Properties and then pressed ok without making any changes, it restored the icon on the panel.

Thanks for the reply

Well, maybe you'd better remove (or at least disable) those additional repos then? ;)

Ok, so it's apparently not really a problem with the migration itself, just some glitch in loading the config... I'll try to reproduce.

Yep, done prior to replying

Same here (for panel items at least) both in Tumbleweed and 42.2 on the same machine.
Couldn't find the reason. So, for whatever it may be worth, I simply re-added the icons individually from the Applications Menu to the Panel, and deleted the aberrant originals.
An alternative is to re-select the appropriate icon through the Properties dialog of the individual apps on the Panel.
Either method works here.

I was trying to avoid that but if thats the only way, i'll have to do it. Just hope it isn't a problem in the release

I found that if i right click the icon and opened the properties then pressed okay without doing anything, it automatically puts back the correct icon
Either method works here.
