openSUSE Release Engineering meeting 05.02.2025

How to join the meeting? https://calendar.opensuse.org/teams/release/events/opensuse-release-engineer... https://meet.opensuse.org/meeting All meeting minutes can be found here: https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/ReleaseEngineering-meeting ## Attendees: bittin, lkocman, DimStar, guillaumeg, rfrohl, ddemaio, DocB ## Leap Leap 16 Considering using shared release-notes with SLES 16.0 (SLES Docs team approached me early this week). cockpit update / maintenance plan being worked on, they have quite fast pace with two major releases a month. It seems that we could release a major version update every 6 months. As otherwise we'd be really behind with our 12 months release cycle, especially if we'd grab latest cockpit around Beta timeframe. https://code.opensuse.org/leap/features/issue/190 I got criticized by Debian 12 being newer in this regard than our new major release. Keeping distinct brand might be an issue here. Cooking with Doug an article highlighting changes on Leap 16.0 for pre-Beta which would highlight drop of certain technologies etc and would allow us to gather feedback before everything is set in stone. Both Xen / AppArmor support in 16t being questioned at the moment by SUSE's kernel team. https://code.opensuse.org/leap/features/issue/189 - request tracker for evaluation of Xen drop https://code.opensuse.org/leap/features/issue/182 - Apparmor 4.1 We'd very much like to keep AppArmor, that one is still being evaluated. Xen story seems to be written in the sand, however, we'd still like to collect both AppArmor usecases in case you depend on it. Leap Micro 6.1 Maintenance updates blocked on https://github.com/openSUSE/product-composer/issues/14 Adrian already found the root cause. Leap Micro 6.2 Drafts of SLE Micro 6.2 schedule are being worked on. Update hopefully soon. ## openSUSE Tumbleweed (ana) openSUSE:Factory build fail stats: 48 failed 5 unresolvable ( last week: 33 failed, 11 unresolvable) ~663 requests accepted in the last week (data source: https://build.opensuse.org/projects/openSUSE:Factory/pulse) Python2 is gone🎉 Most relevant updates accepted, in no particular order, most of it not yet in Factory RPM 4.20 Linux Kernel 6.13.1 Linux Kernel Longterm 6.12.12 meson 1.7.0 timezone 2025a rust1.84 by default Qt 6.8.2 fwupd 2.0.5 valgrind 3.24.0 xhost 1.0.10 Blocked / on-going: removal of python 2 almost done! I did share our usecase and that we have quite active community around AppArmor in Leap too (aside from TW). jsc#PED-12021 (Cathy): Progress on product bugs: 2 blockers left, 2 low prio bugs left Progress on openQA tests: 5 blockers left, 2 low prio bugs left MinimalVM mostly okay, missing product bugs Question: what is the status of yast team for: https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1231490 Dominique will ask again => YaST Team mentioned to take it into the next sprint (starting week 2025/07) ## Richard (Aeon+botmaster) NOT AVAILABLE ## Max Leap 16.0 * 5735 packages in Leap 16.0, 1102 pending SRs(was 5461 packages in Leap 16.0, 1389 pending SRs) * released a new build 61.19 * more uninstallable package fixup(problem in ftp-tree) * look into the NonFree stuff Backports SLE15-SP7 * build failed package fixup lkocman: OBS built offline media seems to be already working for SLES 16, so we can expect it in Leap 16.0 soon. Keep in mind that Leap has more packages than SLE, so it might need additional release note entries that are not relevant for SLE. If that is still possible (for example by building SLE and Leap release notes from the same sources, but using a "Leap only" flag), fine.
Both Xen / AppArmor support in 16t being questioned at the moment by SUSE's kernel team.
I've added some of my AppArmor usecases in the ticket - including some things that AFAIK are not possible with SELinux. Regards, Christian Boltz -- Yes we do CI/CD. Contineous irritation and disappointment. [http://nitter.actionsack.com/ProgrammerDude/status/1426139313784381441]
