Here's the rub, his machine has NO DVD or CD.
Are you saying that his computer cannot accept a CD or DVD as well? If the computer can house a DVD player/burner, why not install one?
That would be the easiest solution and would add to their computing experience in the long run.
His MBd has a toasted IDE controller or I'd have already done that. It also has a built in SATA controller which he currently uses. He doens't want to toss an otherwise good MBd with quad core 4ghz cpu and 4 SATA drives in the box. He is willing to clean a drive for Linux and once he is familiar with SuSE, even to wipe Doze completely based on what he's seen on my systems, but for the moment, a DVD/CD is not part of the equation, much to my chagrin. The solution must involve USB, or a Doze program that can load/install Linux on a spare partition or if I can figure out PXE and his NIC supports it, maybe that becomes an option but I am in very early stages of trying to see how that might work. I wish his MBd had a working IDE controller, to be sure that would make it simpler, but if it was simple, there would be no challange now would there <grin>?
