[opensuse-factory] Something amiss with zypper up on a kde factory system
Tried to do a "zypper up" and am offered 190 "new" packages which appear mostly gnome. Doesn't see right for my KDE4 system ??? i get the same, not on a fresh install of beta1, but zypper-dup'ed from milestone 3 some time ago. i'm supposed to install 206 new packages, mostly GNOME, which i don't plan on using or installing. seems some package or other went berserk with dependencies... -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

This makes some sense since DVDs are becoming the most widely used for distribution. Most of the linux magazines only include DVDs, not CDs and DVD drives have been common for several years now. This would also allow inclusion of more content and allow users more choice of software. There could also be a folder with information and tutorials for new users that might make openSuSE more attractive. Tom -- “What we do for ourselves dies with us. I saw zypper make that proposal on several M1 systems today, and proceeded to not by: # zypper in gio-branding-upstream # zypper al gdm gnome-session-core # zypper dup I don't know what that new gio stuff is, but some of it won't allow removal without removing virtually everything KDE-related. I tried rpm -e --nodeps on one of them, and the subsequent zypper dup wanted to pull even more new packages than on the aborted run. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Oh, this also explains the KDE livecd issue. We added a require on gdm-branding-openSUSE in gio-branding-openSUSE, and this has this small side-effect... We'll fix it ASAP, sorry for the mess. Someone had better "accept" it then as testing factory is kaput until then. of course not; apparently the real fix is known and has been submitted, but not accepted into factory. that's none of my business, nor do i try to understand the logic (or lack of it) behind this. i'm happy that you showed a workaround that works for me. i'm not trying to be an 'active' member of this community anymore; just a user making the best of what's available. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
