[opensuse-factory] openSUSE Argon is missing a working installer
Hi everybody, I was trying to install Argon on a different partition and it looked the installation was going into the initial install - yet it just was waiting at a login prompt. Next, I boot to the live display so I could see what it looked like but the live installer was missing. The installer during initial set up doesn't install. Is this openSUSE's answer to KDE Neon? I would be willing to put in the time to test. Cheers! Roman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, Argon does not have an installer yet. Which is a bit unfortunate as the Leap installer does not support adding custom add-on repos during the installation, so it's not possible to set it up in one go. Now that Argon is based on 42.3, I could add the installer from Krypton, as YaST now has the necessary features. That will take a while though, as it requires quite some testing...
Is this openSUSE's answer to KDE Neon?
openSUSE Argon is just the live version of Leap + KDE:Unstable repositories. Same for Krypton, which is TW + KDE:Unstable. TW + KU and Leap + KU existed for a long time before Neon was even planned, so they can't really be the answer to a question that wasn't asked yet. The live images are just a quick way for testing whether it works well enough for actually using it, with the official way for installing still being the usual TW or Leap install + adding repos afterwards. It's also how openQA for KDE:Unstable works, the images are booted and some applications tested.
I would be willing to put in the time to test.
That would be very helpful, as currently Krypton receives most of the testing. Note that you won't be able to use Wayland, as X on 42.x is too old (ironic, isn't it?). For now you can just add the necessary repos yourself, with the usual note "THIS MAY BREAK YOUR SYSTEM", which applies especially for 42.x + KDE:Unstable as some core packages need to be replaced with newer versions. zypper addrepo -f -p 50 -n "KUQ" http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Unstable:/Qt/openSUSE_Leap_42... KUQ zypper addrepo -f -p 75 -n "KUF" http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Unstable:/Frameworks/openSUSE... KUF zypper addrepo -f -p 75 -n "KUA" http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Unstable:/Applications/KDE_Un... KUA zypper addrepo -f -p 75 -n "KUE" http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Unstable:/Extra/KDE_Unstable_... KUE Have fun! Cheers, Fabian

I have 42.3 installed on my second drive so I'll add the repository. Whether it will work is another matter, ;-)
I just installed Leap 42.3 to my SSD and it works great. I'm glad you added the Application Menu Bar for Plasma 5.8.7. I really like the feature to add extra repositories during the initial installation. Maybe for Leap 15? Cheers! It was still available in 42.2 and that it's suddenly gone caused trouble for openQA maintenance tests, as they use that mechanism for adding the test update repos during the installation. Using "addon=<url1>,<url2>,..." in the kernel cmdline still works though and is what is used for 42.3 maintenance testing now. I'm not sure what the rationale behind that decision was, probably just an oversight. I guess you could open a bug report. Cheers, Fabian
