[opensuse-factory] KDE4<>KDE3
Happy New Year to All; I just tried to get a audio mixer like kmix (Qt3) in openSuSE 11.3 using "zypper in kmix" Zypper came back with about 4 or 5 not needed thing that it was going to remove. Fine! Head on, Do it. Zypper started and removed about 25 packages and installed kmix. Execute kmix and <unknown program name>(829)/: KUniqueApplication: Cannot find the D-Bus session server: "Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken." <unknown program name>(828)/: KUniqueApplication: Pipe closed unexpectedly. KDE3->KDE4 migration is slightly messed up due to packaging errors, this needs to be fixed. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Did zypper not warn it had conflicts and was going to remove stuff? If not tht's also a new one on me.

There is only the KDE3 kamix on one box, no KDE3 mixer on another and only kmix (KDE4) on all. Seems KDE3 is being phased out as it's the old unmaintained branch and elsewhere people are moving to kde4/qt4 if they haven't already done so. I can't figure why you have so many problems. It said it was going to remove about 5 apps (all were lang or gnome related). I hit enter and it removed about 25 to 30 apps and things which adversely effected startx and kde4 backgrounds. I did a zypper dup and then up and ysst2 software search and got it back up. -- 73 de Donn Washburn 307 Savoy Street Email:" n5xwb@comcast.net " Sugar Land, TX 77478 LL# 1.281.242.3256 Ham Callsign N5XWB HAMs : " n5xwb@arrl.net " VoIP via Gizmo: bmw_87kbike / via Skype: n5xwbg BMW MOA #: 4146 - Ambassador " http://counter.li.org " #279316 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Are you sure you ran kmix as the user logged into KDE, and not as root? Anders -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

OK, then you are indeed running factory. Just wanted to make sure. In future, it would be better to refer to your installation as factory, not as 11.3, just to avoid confusion. 11.3 will be what is eventually released. Currently it is pre-pre-pre-pre-pre-alpha :) My question remains though, are you sure you ran kmix as the user that was logged into KDE, and not as root? How about now?
Execute kmix and

You sent your reply a minute after my email. No, not quite yet :)

hm, I guess ldconfig did it, since I don't think SuSEconfig does anything for KDE these days. The error messages don't support that though, if ldconfig hadn't been run, you would have seen messages about libraries not being found, not that dbus didn't provide a reply. If it doesn't work after the next update, you should file a bug report. Still and all, happy new year! :) Anders -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
