Hello everybody, Our prayers have been heard and Adobe released a 64bit version of the flash plugin [0] (well pre-release... but hey!) Do you think it would be somewhat feasible to get it in Factory ASAP? Or is it to 'dangerous' at this time? (I would understand, after all we're closing up on RC schedule...) Yes, we won't include a pre-release at this point. I'm not sure adobe would love us spreading their alphas either. Greetings, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I was thinking that maybe both could be packaged, so the user could swap them easily. Please note that this alpha release actually has a working wmode for 64 bit browsers. wmode does not work with the current combination of nspluginwrapper and 32 bit flash 10 release. I think it's very important to have wmode. This is a copy&paste from an old mail that explains why: "Many sites nowadays have banners that roll over the text of the article. In Linux you might have noticed that after the banners move away, they leave blank space behind that cover the text, making it impossible to read the page. Also, the same problem is the cause for site menus that open behind flash animations instead of in front (example: http://www.adobe.com ) This problem is caused by a missing feature called wmode (windowless mode) in the flash-player for linux." -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Actually AFAIK it's not missing from Flash but there are issues in nspluginwrapper 1.0.0 wrt wmode. Probably upgrading that to a new development snapshot would help more than adding an alpha of non-open software. The problem is that it's not too late to get broad testing of such an nspluginwrapper update. I'm not saying that this alpha should be the default, but just to be available packaged in the SUSE repository. Truthfully, the current combination of nspluginwrapper + 32 bit Flash10release could be more unstable that the 64bit alpha alone. Freezes of the 32bit plugin are not so uncommon. Here are explained possible reasons for this instability. http://www.kaourantin.net/2008/11/64-bits.html "More importantly performance and user experience is pretty bad when the plugin is wrapped. Why? Lots of data needs to be transfered through IPC channels." -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Moreover, it happens frequently to me that Flash 32 bit with nspluginwrapper just shows a gray box instead of video on youtube. I have to reload the page 2-3 times, then it works. I think anyone would rather have an working 64 bit alpha than this crappy combination of wrapper and 32 bit release. Oh, well, it can be installed manually after all... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
