[opensuse-factory] Why was kio_sysinfo - My Computer removed for 12.3?
Hello List mates, Does anyone know why kio_sysinfo was removed for 12.3? Cheers! Roman ------------------------------------------------------- openSUSE -- Get it! Discover it! Was it because of the outstanding bugs? Cheers! Roman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, because it is unmaintained and nobody cares to fix the open bugs. This was discussed in the KDE team meeting and also announced in the results of the meeting, see http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-kde/2013-01/msg00057.html Christian -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I thought so. There are quite a number of bugs that were never addressed. Cheers! Roman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
Roman, there is a good news... we replaced it with kinfocenter... in the coming updates if you still have the mycomputer on the desktop you shall see it replaced... KInfoCenter certainly provides a lot more information than kio_sysinfo. And, My Computer had _too_ _many_ outstanding bugs that were not being addressed. -- Cheers! Under Disk Information, when right-clicking on the device name should show an Options menu for mount or eject etc.. The message appears when moving the mouse over the device name. Left-clicking on a device name such as a partition opens to a folder. However, the back button does not take the user back to the original "sysinfo:/ " page. I pointed these out for the last couple of years and they were never fixed. -- Cheers! Ah, OK, thanks. Not knowing that these were there I have therefore never missed not having them :-) . Terrible thing knowledge :-) . Agreed. Too bad about My Computer. I really liked it. Roman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Well, don't give up yet :-) . In another list (KDE I think), after I raised the issue, I was told that it is being put back any day now -- unless I totally misunderstood what was written. Check out my Bugzilla report: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=776272#c5 However, it does say for 12.3 and it does not say permanently. If and when it's reintroduced a lot of the bugs really need to be fixed. Cheers! This was discussed in the KDE team meeting and also announced in the results of the meeting, see http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-kde/2013-01/msg00057.html
Would it be an option to send such decisions also to opensuse-announce / opensuse-factory list, since not everyone is following kde mailing list. Togan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
