[opensuse-factory] GDM locking
The Gnome Display Manager is locking on me. It happens every time I boot into runlevel 5. It displays the login window, but there is no response to the mouse or keyboard. Is this a problem anyone else has been having? Jon Cosby -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Yeah, I'm seing the same here (in VirtualBox). I picked Xfce DE in 1st stage of installation, rebooted, logged in with gdm (but got half-baked Gnome session instead of Xfce - that is a known bug - bnc#481468, comment #14). Then I went to YaST and picked a different keyboard. Since then, I can only boot into runlevel 3, as keyboard and mouse are completely frozen in runlevel 5. I thought it was the keyboard setup that broke it for me (but it should not happen anyway)... I'll try to debug it further hB. -- \\\\\ Katarina Machalkova \\\\\\\__o YaST developer __\\\\\\\'/_ & hedgehog painter -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

OK, this (using yast2-keyboard) is The Step that makes the whole thing reproducibly freeze for me. So don't try it at home, kids :-) :-) I've filed a bug (https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=535661), yet I still miss some official announcement saying "Hey folks, do not use sax2 (keyboard & mouse part) anymore, use this and that instead". I saw it mentioned in several threads here in os-Factory, but only after thorough search. Maybe I've just overlooked something ... hB. -- \\\\\ Katarina Machalkova \\\\\\\__o YaST developer __\\\\\\\'/_ & hedgehog painter -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Try to boot in runlevel 3 and check whether hal daemon is running. I had a similar problem after the update. The hal package was broken by some reason and gave segfaults at each time. After updating again the whole repository, it got fixed magically again. What version of openSUSE & GNOME are you using, that might help to locate the problem, esp if there is a known bug. I guess I just through that out there. I have MS6 with GDE 2.27.5. I should also mention I set the initial runlevel to 3 on the installation, and this began upon changing it to 5. I found last night that starting an xserver session and bypassing GDM has the same problem, so apparently this is not a GDM problem.
