i did the same (a week ago or so), and my boot splash still says RC 1, but the system seems to be RC2 ok, as the common signature script confirms: ------ powered by openSUSE 11.2 (x86_64) Kernel: 2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop KDE: 4.3.2 (KDE 4.3.2) "release 5" 18:57pm up 0:15, 3 users, load average: 0.05, 0.20, 0.21 ------ i'm not particularly concerned by this, as all packages incl. kernel are up to RC2... -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Okay, I will not worry then. Indeed! RC2 does not use the Factory repo. Change your repos and dup again. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Most likely the grub menu is only updated when the kernel package is modified, and afaik there is no change in the kernel between RC1 and RC2, so unless you go into YaST -> Bootloader -> Propose New Configuration you will not see a "RC2" in the grub bootloader menu. The real test to see what the system thinks you are running is in /etc/SuSE-brand and /etc/SuSE-release, I think. Yes, you are true. If you update and kernel doesn't change then there is no reason to change titles in bootloader menu ( I try to have philosophy that if it work before update, touch as less as possible to not break it) Perl-Bootloader use few ways how to get currently installed product and one way is read SuSE-release :) -- Josef Reidinger YaST team maintainer of perl-Bootloader, YaST2-Repair, webyast modules language and time -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

With the milestones the bootsplash image was not update, but the menu entry of grub was. Not with going from RC1 to RC2. In milestones is kernel version changed, not between RC1 and RC2. You can get it if you change your kernel flavor e.g. to from default to desktop or vice versa. -- Josef Reidinger YaST team maintainer of perl-Bootloader, YaST2-Repair, webyast modules language and time -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

in my case it says 'RC1,' but i definitely don't have factory repos enabled anymore. i believe in my case it's because i ran 'zypper up,' which installed the new kernel, and then 'zypper dup,' which didn't touch the kernel anymore.
