[opensuse-factory] OpenSuSE 11.1 - Ndiswrapper Troubles
SuSE 11.1 was installed on an Amilo laptop manufactured by Fujistu. The ndiswrapper does not work with 11.1 but works fine with 11.0. The ndis drivers won't compile from source. There are errors from a C function call. Does anyone have a solution to this? You did not provide the error message you got. And what's wrong with the version of ndiswrapper in the build service? And most importantly, what network driver are you relying on that you need ndiswrapper for? thanks, greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

The ndiswrapper from the build service recognises the built in SIS chip (sis163u) after the command "ndiswrapper -i sis163u.inf" is made on the command line. After running "modprobe -l ndiswrapper" the wireless card is not recognised. The same sequence of commands in suse 11.0 works. The ndiswrapper installed be suse 11.1 was removed. The ndiswrapper source was downloaded. Running make gave similar error as detailed below this email. After googling for a while, this appears a known problem for ndiswrapper compiled on machines running kernel 2.6.27. A patch has to be applied to compile the ndiswrapper source code. After searching and a few hits and misses later, a patch file was found on gentoo's site. After applying the patch to ndiswrapper source, the code compiled. After installing, ndiswrapper now works! If anyone has similar problems, I can provide guidance on the procedure followed to get ndiswrapper working. I have prepared a crude RPM by running checkinstall after installing the drivers. I am willing to provide these to anyone asks. I am posting this on the normal list as well in case anyone there finds this post useful. Thanks.
