Great GNOME artwork in 10.1
You really did a great job with the new GNOME artwork in 10.1. I like the new Industrial icon set very much, and the new GNOME default theme as well. Cheers! -- Igor Jagec

Erm, it looks "identical" to the KDE desktop now, apart from it is in green as opposed to blue - window borders and bar layouts. I was lost for a couple of seconds looking for the Gnome menu at the top, when it has been moved to the bottom... It does look clean, but too KDE like. I used to like occassionally using Gnome because it was "different" from KDE in its layout. It isn't as flexible as KDE, but at least it looked different. Now it looks like KDE, but without the flexibility. Dave -- "I got to go figure," the tenant said. "We all got to figure. There's some way to stop this. It's not like lightning or earthquakes. I always modify the default look and I use Main Menu instead of Menu Bar. I use only one bottom panel. I got more space that way, and it is important for me since I have 17'' monitor using 1024x768 resolution.
I use GNOME since I become a Linux user (4 years now). At least on desktop computers.

I would say that the new Industrial icon set looks less KDE like than in previous version (which is still available under GNOME name in "Theme Details"). The thing I hate most in SUSE's GNOME is modified Applications menu which uses KDE icon sets and looks like KDE. It's really nice from SUSE developers to make all that effort, but there is no need to to that. Since this new icon set looks less KDE like (IMHO), now I like SUSE's GNOME better. I manage to set up "original GNOME" Applications menu by replacing /etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu which I took from Fedora Core. The funny thing is that on Novell Linux Desktop GNOME doesn't look like KDE at all. They even replaced Yast icon sets with GNOME ones. It would be very nice if we could see that on OSS. Or even better, to make gtk2 version of Yast in order to have completely KDE independent system like FC or Ubuntu ;) -- Igor Jagec

I started with Enlightenment en switched to WindowMaker. Tried XFCE for a few months and went back to WindowMaker. I like neither Gnome, nor KDE. I need to change so much it is not even funny anymore. :-)
At this moment you only need CD1-3 for default KDE and Gnome. Would it be possible to have a CD1+KDE CD1+Gnome and thus only needing 2 CD's to download? OK, I know it is possible, because other disto's can do it with one CD. ;-) So is it something that can be easily done (for 10.2)? houghi -- Nutze die zeit. You like it or not, both of them provides most of features. Even XFCE provides lots of features. But there are situations when you don't have all these features as well.

Try with Fvwm2 if you like tweaking of WMs ;)
Minimum install with X would be something like Twm, Fvwm or WMaker - to provide minimum features with X. Minimum install without X should be suitable for routers, some servers and so on. I saw that there is ncurces based version of Yast so I gues that using Yast on such minimum system can be done without no problem. I never use such tools like Yast, but people do so I don't want to be selfish bastard ;)

It never occured to me such options (CD1+GNOME or KDE) since I made DVD iso image from your makeSUSEdvd program ;) BTW you did a great job with that program, thanks. You've made our lives much more easier ;) -- Igor Jagec
