[opensuse-factory] packman repository and zypper mirror "system"
Hi folks! anyone knows if the packman repository use the mirror system that the new zypper use? For "new system" I mean the one that you point, for example, the OSS repository and if chooses the best mirror automaticaly.... I want to know because I'm writing a tutorial for newbies on how to get the system installed via LiveCD the most translated possible, and with the "basics" repositories installed....(OSS, Non-OSS, Update and Packman for instance) One think I note is that the official repos, added by default, doesn't get its cache, even doing "Refresh All Enabled". The workaround is or remove it and add it again or doing "zypper ref --force" regards, Luiz Fernando --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

This has nothing to do with zypper and is purely an implementation of download.opensuse.org. So no, packman is not using it. Henne -- Henne Vogelsang, openSUSE. Packman *could* be using the same server infrastructure, if they wanted. The implementation is not specific to download.opensuse.org, and also used by the go-oo (openoffice devel) project. But that's unrelated to that discussion. Please discuss that at the packman mailing list. And yes, we already had that discussions and we *have* reasons not (yet) using OBS. Ok.... So, for now, i'll tell the guy to add the packman repository via Community Repository and then change its URL to a mirror in USA (as we live in South America) Thanks for the answers! regards, Luiz Fernando Ranghetti 2008/6/17 Bernhard Walle <bwalle@suse.de>:

Sorry Bernhard, I'm not on the packman list. I am not intending to suggest anything there either. I was replying so that Hennes statement would not be interpreted as "this is only suitable for download.opensuse.org". You misunderstood something it seems -- the download infrastructure (and mirror handling framework) I referred to has nothing to do with the OBS (openSUSE build service). Right. Sorry. I just can't hear the "why don't packman use OBS" any more. :) We don't use the redirector (I think that is what you mean basically with "mirror handling famework") because we don't have the infrastructure. One machine (that also hosts the web site) as single point of failure is not a very good solution, IMO.
