[opensuse-factory] broken Youtube due to default installation of pullin-flash-player
I use http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMLMHJjMN0o lately to test if Youtube works. On my latest 13.1 installation at least, the feature video looks like it's trying to run in 4 or 8 color mode in 4:3 aspect ratio. On same system, it works as expected both in WinXP (Flash not installed) and Fedora 20 (Flash not installed). installed: flash-player-11.2.202.310-2.1.6.i586 flash-player-kde4-11.2.202.310-2.1.6.i586 konqueror-4.11.2-1.1.i586 MozillaFirefox-25.0-1.1.i586 pullin-flash-player-12.3-4.1.2.i586 seamonkey-2.22-1.1.i586 xf86-video-intel-2.99.905-1.1.i586 Removing *flash* solves the problem. Same for everyone? Should Flash/pullin-flash not by default be left uninstalled? How are those who need Flash available for non-HTML5 sites supposed to deal with this? I have problems with youtube on 12.3. I use flashblock. When I click on a youtube link, it starts downloading in html5 mode, but nothing displays, I get audio only. I have to click to allow flash, and sometimes it works, sometimes it does not and I have to reload the page. There is a conflict between both. Is this similar to what you get? -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 12.3 x86_64 "Dartmouth" at Telcontar)

That is most likely flashblock problem. Also, in 13.1 is used the same pullin-flash as in 12.3: Repository: openSUSE-13.1-Oss Name: pullin-flash-player Version: 12.3-4.1.2 Arch: x86_64 @Felix: I use nouveau delivered with 13.1 GM, and there is no problems with linked video. It just plays as any other, no image degradation with lower colors. Does about:plugins show that you have Flash installed? As I wrote, it works fine here too after having uninstalled flash-player, hence the reason for the concluding questions in the OP. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Yes. Version 11.2 ...

With player in place it will show swf version, without html5. In a clean Firefox window I disabled flash plug-in, and loaded your link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMLMHJjMN0o . Right click on a video and context menu will have About HTML5. -- Regards, Rajko. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

On a different 13.1/KDE4.11.2 system, with rv200 Radeon AGP gfx, without Flash installed, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMLMHJjMN0o was working fine. Then I did zypper in flash-player and rebooted. Afterward, that same URI on reload painted a black player window initially, which then turned white, disappearing into the background. No sound played either. About plugins reported Flash to be installed. I closed FF and installed flash-player-kde4, reopened FF, the video plays, but about plugins reports no enabled plugins found. Right clicking the video provides no opportunity to discover what enables playing the video. :-p My OP described an installation on a system I do not own, so it may or may not be available on which to follow up. On still another 13.1/KDE4.11.2 system, with i845G gfx, without Flash installed, same URI works in FF ESR17. I closed FF, then zypper in flash-player flash-player-kde4, and restarted FF. It now behaves poorly, almost exactly as described in my OP. Instead of a appearing to be 4 or 8 bit colored 4:3 video, the 4 or 8 bit color is limited to the left half of the wide aspect video, while the right half is all black, plus about:plugins does report Flash 12.2.202.310 is installed. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." I have a similar problem with FF on opensuse 12.3, but with no all the youtube videos. When it do'nt play I get a message I must to install the flash plugin. A time ago I played all the youtube videos with Chromium, without problems, but now I get a black screen with the message "Something is wrong". The only way to play all the youtube videos on opensuse 12.3, is with Konqueror. In Firfox I have installed the flashblock plugin, and before installing it hatte problems with some youtube videos. It can happen if you have placeholder for video instead of actual video, but with video playing it must be "About HTML5", as that is the only way for YouTube to send you one, when flash plugin is not available. -- Regards, Rajko. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Obviously with about:plugins showing none installed, and a video playing, not any placeholder, the video must be HTML5, but the context menu is as I described. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Strange. I was walking around video with a mouse and context is showing that "About HTML5" item (that opens new YouTube tab with browser properties as seen by YouTube) in every point of the video. To get normal html context menu, with "Inspect Element (Q)" as last item, I have to exit video area. IMHO, it smells more and more like a problem between video driver and Kwin, where the worst affected is Flash, but even HTML5 does not work as it should. First type of problem that you see, half screen with correct colors and half with reduced color depth, then, this lack of correct menu. I use nvidia driver supplied with kernel 3.11.6-3-default. :~> kwin --version Qt: 4.8.5 KDE Development Platform: 4.11.2 KWin: 4.11.2 -- Regards, Rajko. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
