Re: [opensuse-factory] Installation of openSUSE 11.1 Beta 4 in VirtualBox 2.0.4 (Windows XP host) and Video Memory
Hi Thorolf, On Thu, Nov 6, 2008, I wrote that, when trying to install openSUSE 11.1 Beta 4 (burned on a DVD) in a VirtualBox 2.0.4. virtual machine (host running Windows XP Professional SP3), with the"default" Video Memory (8 MB), the following happened:
I selected the "Installation" option. A dialog box appeared saying "Starting... Loading Linux Kernel" and a progress bar ran from 0% to 100%. When it reached the 100%, the screen went completely BLACK!
... and on the same day, Thorolf Godawa replied:
you have tried to install in text mode?
I only know that in the past there where problems with the splash screen, but I think that this is an other problem.
Thanks for the feedback. I did *not* try to install in text mode because I managed to work around the problem by increasing the video memory from the default (8 MB) to 16 MB (as I mentioned in my original message). Meanwhile, I have downloaded openSUSE 11.1. Beta 5 and the problem did NOT happen this time: when I clicked "Installation" the screen did become black for 5 seconds or so, but then the logo with the word "openSUSE" did appear (centered in a green background) and the installation went normally from beginning to end. At the end of the installation, I *did* "bump" into another problem, but that one has already been reported (and listed as one of the "Most Annoying Bugs" in openSUSE 11.1), namely: Bug 444747 - vboxmouse is not working (GNOME and KDE4 LiveCDs https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=444747 Thanks for trying to help Thorolf! :) Best wishes, Ricardo Dias Marques lists AT ricmarques DOT net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
