System freeze with kernel 5.9.x series
LS, There was a discussion before about intermittent screen freezes using TW and the 5.9.x kernel. Some blamed the Intel graphics, while I had experienced this same effect with AMD, NVIDEA and Intel and have reported that also in mentioned thread. I have not seen any message that the problem has been tracked and is/will be corrected. Today, I did an update to 5.9.12, started a rsync session (within the standard Plasma KDE environment) to download a whole nongnu repository and stopped all programs using the displays. I did this because I had noticed and reported that too, that the freeze problem occurs mainly when the network is rather busy and I stressed the display usage. I wanted to see if the network alone could freeze the system. The result, it was a DEEP FREEZE!!. Only a system reset would bring the system back to life. It is unclear how long it took to get a system wide freeze, - was not there to watch due to some late minute shopping - but it must have been anywhere between one to two hours before this occurred. There is no such issue with the 5.8.15 kernel detected. So - again - don't look at the visible effect, but rather look at the network portion within 5.9.x. Anyhow, this issue has plagued the OpenSuse kernel 5.9.x series long enough. I hope this issue is resolved when moving forward to the 5.10 kernel series. Hi Please create bug reports such as this in the bugtracker bugzilla.opensuse.org , this ensures the right people will be notified and able to work on them. Thanks Simon On 12/15/20 6:04 AM, Frans de Boer wrote:
