if you are running under GNOME: 1) check pulseaudio daemon is running (ps aux | grep pulse) 2) make sure you have all the latest alsa* packages as well as pulseaudio -- Rodrigo Moya <rodrigo@novell.com> --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

alsa* and alsa-plugins-pulse for alsa-based apps, pulseaudio, padevchooser, paprefs, paman, pavucontrol, pavumeter. Then, if pulse is not running: $ pulseaudio -D after this, on a GNOME desktop, all sound apps should work -- Rodrigo Moya <rodrigo@novell.com> --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I agree with you. My sound disappeared with RC1. Works on 10.3 (Dual boot with 11.0RC1). Also works from Amarok but not from kmail, konquorer, etc. I have KDE3.5.9 installed. I'm send this from 10.3 and sound works fine. -- Russ Linux register user 441463 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

we added a "fix" to alsa for RC1 to force alsa apps to go through pulseaudio, and that broke KDE. A fix is already accepted and prepared for RC2/GM -- Rodrigo Moya <rodrigo@novell.com> --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

yes, the packages have been accepted now, but if you are using KDe, just remove the mention to /etc/asound-pulse.conf from the /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf file, that should do it -- Rodrigo Moya <rodrigo@novell.com> --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Just to note that sound did not work on my x86_64 not running either KDE or Gnome. It did after I started pulseaudio by hand. I trust your fix will deal with all cases ==John ffitch --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

yes, it's supposed to fix all the cases, file a bug in case there's something else missing -- Rodrigo Moya <rodrigo@novell.com> --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
