[opensuse-factory] [status report] openSUSE distribution, week 16
Hi, We're busy right now preparing beta1 and for that we took quite some package updates. So we didn't have a really meaningful rebuild since last status update. I hope the best for beta1, but I already expect a delay of at least one day - meaning announcement on friday. OK, our initial testing already has shown several blocker bugs, that need fixing before we can do _anything_ with it ;( Greetings, Stephan -- SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I read the news but I don't understand how the setup time was accelerated by 700% ?!? Even considering lzma payload, yast/zypper improvements and smaller number of packages in default install, I don't see how this is possible. -- -Alexey Eromenko "Technologov" --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Hi Alexey, you should read the article not only the title - it is explained there. From http://www.kdedevelopers.org/node/3385: "an improvement from 43 to 26 minutes": I think it should be better to correct the text of the news: 743%??? Are you advertising? :) On Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 1:41 PM, Stefan Kunze <skunze@novell.com> wrote:

The actual percentage should be 46% _not_ 743% unless some new math has come into play that we are not aware of. A 50% improvement would have had an install time of 21.5 minutes which was not achieved. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I think a recalibration of everyone's humour detector is in order here :-) Still, for those there is still a disclaimer in the blog post: "and yes, the title of this blog was fixed before I did the actual testing." Well, I should think that a blog post title and its link could be different from a news title; (just thinking about a casual ubuntu user who read this official news :) ) Ok ok, I'll stop the italian humour...
