[opensuse-factory] I can't install 42.2 Beta under vmplayer, too slow
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I downloaded "openSUSE-Leap-42.2-NET-x86_64-Build0109-Media.iso" to install it under VMware Player. The dialogs change very slow, in minutes, and finally it has stuck at the "installation setting" screen; says: "analyzing your system" for three hours, with the single cpu core dedicated to the guest at 100%. I can't get to a text display (vt1, vt2...) of the guest running the Beta installation to see the logs. Does not respond. Anybody seen this? - -- Thanks, Carlos E. R. How much memory you gave for VM? I remember having similar problems with installing 42.1 in VirtualBox with 512MB of RAM. Just give it 1GB and it should be fine. -- Adam Mizerski

The default vmware wanted for an openSUSE 64bit engine: 768 MB. I have many Linux engines with that amount. One at least with Leap 42.1. I see that the official version given at https://software.opensuse.org/developer/en?release=developer is http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/42.2-Alpha3/iso/openSUSE-Leap..., which is dated on July. But at http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/42.2-Current/iso/ I see: openSUSE-Leap-42.2-NET-x86_64-Build0158-Media.iso which is dated today. Ie, the official download link for the development version is wrong. Who to report this? I'm trying now the newer version. [...] Fails. Text box: Installation system does not match your boot medium. Sorry, this will not work. I don't remember ever seeing this before, no idea what it means. I'll try with the full DVD instead. It downloads very slow, though. One hour, and I have 300Mbps. [...] Yes, this one finally works. Running the install currently. It runs reasonably fast. Conclusion: there are issues with the NET install media and vmware player. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. I wouldn't say the version is wrong. It just depends on what one would call the "current developer version". The last released milestone build of Leap42.2 is the Alpha3 which is Build0109 so nothing wrong there. Since that time there are new builds on the way to Beta1. http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/42.2-Current/ gives the always current build. This is the one that is also tested on openqa.opensuse.org, e.g. see https://openqa.opensuse.org/group_overview/19 which shows the most recent tests for the build you mentioned, i.e. 0158. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Well, in any case the Net install media doesn't install on my vmware player instance. I thought openQA tested for this. I'll have to report in Bugzilla. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)

Hello I downloaded openSUSE-Leap-42.2-DVD-x86_64-Build0158-Media.iso this morning and installed it with no problems under VMware Workstation 12 Pro which running on the current version of Leap. I noticed no problems during the installation (I allocated 768 megs of memory) and the installation was done on a fast ssd drive. Afterwards, I used nmap and sshed into a few other systems, surfed with Firefox and Chromium with no problems. LibreOffice seems a bit slow what I start it but whatever. I wanted to try installing VMware Workstation just to see - but the requirements for gcc and gcc-c++ could not be provided and I didn't know what to answer (besides there is no hurry). ##### Installing gcc... I'll try to look into this one later. I can ask them if not found. I have the vague feeling that the repo is published after release, though. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)
official release is on the 31st. maybe not ready yet. André Op 27-8-2016 om 17:48 schreef Carlos E. R.:
