Hi Larry That all moved to /usr/etc/ssh, as the admin you create your configs in /etc/ssh/[ssh_config.d,sshd_config.d].... -- Cheers Malcolm °¿° (Linux Counter #276890) Tumbleweed 20230912 | GNOME Shell 44.4 | 6.5.2-1-default HP Z440 | Xeon E5-2695 V4 X36 @ 2.10GHz | Quadro T400/Tesla P4 up 14:45, 3 users, load average: 0.16, 0.11, 0.16

because they are in /usr/etc if you alter them, they need to be copied to /etc/.. and altered there. iianm -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet oftc

No, because in this case, you have to manually sync distribution changes to this file. Why do you think we have have /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/ and /etc/ssh/ssh_config.d/? Please put a snippet with your changed configuration optionin this directories. Afterwards you don't need to care anymore, if we change /usr/etc/ssh/ssh_config or /usr/etc/ssh/sshd_config Thorsten -- Thorsten Kukuk, Distinguished Engineer, Senior Architect, Future Technologies SUSE Software Solutions Germany GmbH, Frankenstraße 146, 90461 Nuernberg, Germany Managing Director: Ivo Totev, Andrew McDonald, Werner Knoblich (HRB 36809, AG Nürnberg)

Yes, and you recommended altering them after copying them to /etc/... Which, as Thorsten pointed out, might cause issues, if you copy them *as a whole*. Copying single statements from these files into snippets or drop-in files in the *.d/ directories avoids those issues. Your statement can be read in both ways, IMHO. So I take Thorstens answer as a clarification... The OP had no /etc/ssh/ssh_config and /etc/ssh/sshd_config, which is correct, as this are now below /usr/etc/ssh. But either he has /etc/ssh/ssh_config.d and /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d, or his installation is broken. In the later case, he should do a fresh new installation. Else he should *not* copy the files but create snippets in the .d directories overwriting the single variables he want to change.
