[opensuse-factory] openSUSE Leap 42.2 RC2 released
Hi, tl;dr 42.2 RC2 is on the mirrors, get it from http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/42.2/iso/ We're almost done! The second release candidate is our last milestone before the 42.2 release. The RC2 changes look longer than they are in zypper dup as several packages had to be rebuilt without changes to make sure their release counter is higher than in 42.1. A big change is that the Mesa Nouveau 3D driver was split out to a separate package as KDE crashes with it on some NVidia cards. As usual please report any bugs via bugzilla¹. Make sure to check and update the most annoying bugs list² and release notes³. The gold master image will be prepared next week. Please submit any critical fixes ASAP. cu Ludwig [1] https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Submitting_bug_reports [2] https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Most_annoying_bugs_42.2_dev [3] http://doc.opensuse.org/release-notes/x86_64/openSUSE/Leap/42.2/index.html -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I see 1113 new updates for my RC1 system. Will the final release update as many again, or will there just be tweaks? I'm trying to decide if I have the spare time and broadband quota to do this more than once this month. I'm very much enjoying the RC1 experience BTW. Who knows... with a limited quota I'd wait. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)

That was unfortunately necessary because of the release counter fixes. There is no plan to do a bigger rebuild again so you should only see very few package updates now. cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks for the info, I've now updated, and my desktop seems as good as before, which is to say, very good. The only issues I see so far are ones I've already seen in RC1 1) When I logout and login as someone else, I still see processes belonging to the previous login (logged out leap1 and logged in as michael): michael@kosmos1:~ % ps axuw | grep '[l]eap1' leap1 2154 0.0 0.0 36892 4616 ? Ss 11:04 0:00 /usr/lib/systemd/systemd --user leap1 2157 0.0 0.0 86636 2280 ? S 11:04 0:00 (sd-pam) leap1 2298 6.4 3.1 3118304 259932 ? Tl 11:04 0:09 plasmashell --shut-up leap1 2303 1.3 0.4 398128 37124 ? Tl 11:04 0:02 /usr/lib64/libexec/org_kde_powerdevil -session ... 2) Sddm is correctly writing the last username to /var/lib/sddm/state.conf and I have RememberLastUser=true under [Users] in /etc/sddm.conf, but the username field is always empty (the username field is displayed if there are more that a few users in /etc/password). Installed from DVD OK but . . . (1) There appears to be no Claws 3.14 available. Although there is now (at long last) a repo for GNOME apps there is no Claws in there. This may seem trivial but it means I cannot give 42.2 a thorough test as switching between 3.13 and 3.14 causes too many problems such as loss of account passwords. (2) I have found that Qt5.7 _seems_ to cure the nouveau problems. However, switching to the new 42.2 repos for Qt5 and Frameworks5 creates apparently insurmountable conflicts requiring the removal of Akonadi, splash screens, etc. -- Graham Davis, Bracknell, Berks., UK. openSUSE 42.1; KDE Plasma 5.8.2; Qt 5.7.0; Kernel 4.8.6; AMD Phenom II X2 550 Processor; Sound: ATI SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA); Video: nVidia GeForce 210 (Driver: nouveau) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

This is not the fault of Leap at all - Leap 42.1 came with claws-mail 3.12, 42.2 with claws-mail 3.13.2. Nevertheless I took this mail to ensure claws-mail 3.14.0 is enabled for build in GNOME:Apps - it should land in the repo shortly Cheers, Dominique

Sure. Just saying what has stopped me thoroughly testing 42.2. [One problem with GNOME:Apps and documentation is where the repo is said to be for test apps only (pre-factory) but they never see the light of day elsewhere. Means that even security updates never get to factory, let alone any further up the chain. OK, before you say it, I should raise this elsewhere. Again.]

Yes, I had just spotted that it had appeared. Thanks a lot. I'll try RC2 again. -- Graham Davis, Bracknell, Berks., UK. openSUSE 42.1; KDE Plasma 5.8.2; Qt 5.7.0; Kernel 4.8.6; AMD Phenom II X2 550 Processor; Sound: ATI SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA); Video: nVidia GeForce 210 (Driver: nouveau)

If you're volunteering to maintain packages, you could submit them from GNOME:Apps to Factory -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Please note that maintenance/devel of claws-mail is moved to server:mail. Package is also for sale, so anyone using it please step up and take charge of the package. Since it's a "community package" for Leap, submitting a updated version post release should be a fairly easy task. claws-mail will be removed from GNOME:Apps in the future. /Bjørn -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Your approach to 3rd party repos seems to be rather light-headed. I'd recommend you to refrain from replacing operating system components with packages from OBS repos. Report bugs via bugzilla instead to get fixes via the offical update channel. cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

A hardware defect (Motherboard) of a 32bit 13.2 system gave me the opportunity to do a real world test: After the MB was exchanged against a new 64bit MSI Board, 13.2 still started (!!!), but I went for an upgrade to Leap 42.2 RC2 via Net installer. Partition setup needed hand-crafting to match the multi-disk LVM, but that was the only manual activity. After download of 6GB the system came up like a charme, and everything works up to now. Just the hylafax server cant acess the com-port, which I need to investigate. Congratulation and big Thanks to the openSUSE Team! Great Job! I just installed it and noticed a problem with xscreensaver (XFCE): it does not recognize my password. I did ctrl-alt-f1 to try there, and it works, thus the password is correct. I had to kill the session (ctrl-alt-backsapce) and login again, no problem. But could not reproduce the problem again. So I don't know if it is a genuine problem or transient or dumb fingers. Weird thing: I notice that now it also accepts my root's password to open the user's session. Is this new feature? -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)
