Partially messed up graphics with Tumbleweed snapshot 20240614
Hi, I just upgraded my machine to Tumbleweed snapshot 20240614 and I'm seeing partially messed up graphics on KDE with some fonts scrambled and the mouse pointer vanishing when hovering over certain applications such as Spotify. Anyone else have run into these issues? Adrian

In the past similar problems were due to stale Mesa cache. Try deleting ~/.cache.

The issue affects the greeter screen as well, so it's not user-specific. Also, I don't think deleting the entire .cache folder when it's just about MESA caches is a good idea. It's probably better to just delete the subfolder mesa_shader_cache, but that doesn't help here. Adrian

Upgrading Mesa to 24.1.1 fixes the problem. Install with: # zypper addrepo https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:XOrg/openSUSE_Tumbleweed/X11:... # zypper refresh # zypper in --allow-vendor-change Mesa-24.1.1-1582.1.x86_64 and then reboot. Adrian
Hi Adrian, I had the same issue. For me removing the packman repo and doing a `zypper dup --allow-vendor-change` solved the issue. Seems to be a problem of mixing packman Mesa packages and the recent Tumbleweed snapshot. Cheers, Stefan

Hi there, Ryzen 7 with TW newest snapshot (Dell Laptop) here has same issues, I did try all of the suggested mitigations above, but still mouse and pop-ups are not consistent or not there or not readable (notifications are black squares, some apps don't show a cursor) fun fact: On screen 1 (built-in) the bug occurs consistenly, but, on screen 2 (external) some apps work fine that don't on screen 1. That was pretty tense, since I was preparing my talk for SUSECON openSUSE summit at noon (in 45 minutes, I guess, can't read the clock, it's all black) Oh if it helps: Spectacle can't take screenshots if I want to draw a rectangle - it's all black. Full window works, full screen is also black, on all monitors. -- Best Regards - Mit freundlichen Grüßen, Markus Feilner, Feilner IT - 20 years of open services - Digital Sustainability, Sovereignty, Sobriety Open Source Strategy, Knowledge Management, Documentation Trainings, Workshops, Coaching, Networking, Politics, Journalism https://www.feilner-it.net, 93059 Regensburg Wöhrdstr. 10, +49 170 302 7092 (+Signal) https://mastodon.cloud/@mfeilner https://mastodon.social/@FeilnerIT PGP: 40A3C306F96133067C11CFD9A958A906268C9F0A http://www.feilner-it.net/files/MFpub.asc Xing: http://www.xing.com/profile/Markus_Feilner LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/markusfeilner @mfeilner: Mastodon, Matrix, Jabber, ... I was also hit by the issue. AMD graphics, Mesa installed from OSS. Mesa 24.1.0 broke my system, too. I went back to an earlier snapshot, blocked the following packages: zypper al Mesa* libgbm1 libvdpau_r600 libvdpau_radeonsi libvulkan_radeon and then updated to 20240617 again. Everything is working fine, I'll wait for Mesa 24.1.1 or newer... Oliver -- PGP Public Key available at https://pgp.mit.edu/ Key fingerprint = 3264 280C 05B1 572F 3F0B 42B8 1E7B 2D9D 063B D507

Hi there. Joining the club. RX580 GPU. I have minor glitches around (like black yast or some snap apps). No mixed packages with Packman repo. I haven't tried to upgrade to mesa 24.1.1. from the extra repo. Regards, Stratos
Membership acceptance. RX580. I have little concerns like dark yast and snap apps. Stay wary from Packman-mixed packages. I have not upgraded Mesa 24.1.1 from the additional repository. https://gorillatag.io/

Full Packman 24.1.1 was even worse for me (KDE Slimbook4, Ryzen 7 5700U) - all windows and menus came up transparent, unusable... dark Breeze In an IceWM session I was able to downgrade Mesa to 24.1.0 from TW OSS repo, all is fine again now

We just published a Mesa 24.1.1 version in the openSUSE Update channel, that addresses the issues reprted in this thread (will be integrated part of snapshot 0620 I guess) I could confirm this on my own machine (also AMD Graphics) as working (so far at least) Please use those packages, and hopefully your issues are also sorted.
