[opensuse-factory] gdm/GNOME - new X server for user login
I noticed that on current TW user session is started on different tty using new X server instance (e.g. tty3 here right now), while on tty7 gdm remains running. Is it intentional? Disclaimer - it could have been this way for a long time, I was intrigued by post on forums. Based on this post it looks like recent development. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

It has been that way for a while -- at least two years. My guess has been that this is associated with "gdm" running under Wayland rather than Xorg. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, it is, mostly for user switching reason and allowing Xorg to be run by user (and not by root). This is already the case in Leap.. -- Frederic Crozat Enterprise Desktop Release Manager SUSE -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, as was later clarified user used sddm, which was replaced by gdm after switching to alternatives. So behavior was unexpected. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
