New PulseAudio 14 coming to TW
Hi all, you may have noticed announcement of new PulseAudio 14 release last week. This release bring many many fixes and features, for complete list please see [1]. I would like to point out one "feature" ( [2] ) which may be disruptive to you, depending on the PA configuration. Before PA14, GNOME sound settings manipulated stream routing by overwriting all entries in stream-restore database. PA14 prevents this behaviour, but during testing it turned out old GNOME settings can conflict with new routing logic. [3] Because of difficulty determining what setting was done by GNOME and what settings were done manually by users PA14, it was decided to do one time clearing of the stream-restore database. This will cause PA14 to forget all the routing on the first start of PA14. That means for example if you had different applications configured to play on different outputs, you will need to redo your settings once again. Not enabling this one-time routing database clear would lead to very misleading behaviour of PA14 playing on different outputs but showing different routing in applications. This should be only known inconvenience with new PA14. PA14 is currently in staging, looking forward to be included in one of upcoming Tumbleweed releases. ;) Ondrej 1: https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/Notes/14.0/ 2: https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/Notes/14.0/#compile-tim... 3: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/-/issues/832
