[opensuse-factory] zypper ... applications are going to be ...
TW zypper ups seem to do a fair amount of installing and removing these things, e.g. "GStreamer Multimedia Codecs - Base" and "Print Settings". Exactly what are they? Why does TW with Plasma5 want?/require? both the non-versioned "application" QupZilla and the package qupzilla? "Applications" seem to serve no purpose other than make zypper se output require two lines of terminal output for each item instead of one. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Root cause of your issue is https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi? id=989031 As to the question: There are two concepts in zypper: * Packages * Applications Packages is the underlying technology and Applications is, in general, what a user is interested in. They are mainly used / represented it Software Centers (Discover, GNOME Software) but zypper knows the concept as well. Cheers, Dominique
