[opensuse-factory] Searching for weather forecast v1.0 widget for Plasma 5
Hi all, KDE4 has a weather forecast v1.0 widget that comes with the default installation. It has a search field for location for your city and allows you to set up: Temperature, pressure, wind speed and visibility Any chance that it can be ported into Plasma 5.5? -- Cheers! Dunno, but have a look at other weather plasmoids: "Plasma 5 Plasmoids" http://kde-apps.org/index.php?xcontentmode=93 Maybe one of these: http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/Weather+Widget?content=169572 http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/Yahoo%21+Weather+Widget?content=164194 or "Plasma Scripts" http://kde-apps.org/?xcontentmode=77 Maybe one of these: http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/Plasma+Google+Now?content=166754 http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/Bohinj+Weather+Plasmoid?content=132884 http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/plasma_pyweather?content=110137 YMMV - Yamaban -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

The original developer is as far as I can see no longer involved in Plasma development. The code is also pretty convoluted and hard to port. It would take a lot of focused effort to get this ported. That is why focus is on porting other applets first. -- Luca Beltrame - KDE Forums team KDE Science supporter GPG key ID: A29D259B -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks Yamaban. The plasma_pyweather plasmoid does not show up in the widget list after installation. The Yahoo plasmoid works for now. It does take up a lot of real estate on the screen. Once I switch to a 23"-24" screen it should not be a problem. Too bad. I liked the way it displayed information whether in text or graphics. It's the only plasmoid that retrieved information from Environment Canada as I'm in Toronto, Ontario Canada. Maybe if the Plasma 5 series is out for another year we'll see a larger selection. Luca Does this mean that it'll eventually be ported into Plasma 5 or have we completely lost it? Is this plasmoid written in Java? Cheers! Pyweather depends on a no longer present way to run Plasma applets, that is using Python. Having fixed a few issues in the Python code in the past, that was actually for the best (badly coded applet would totally crash Plasma due to the way the Python Qt bindings are done).

No, C++, but it would need a port to QML for the UI and a way to reduce the loads of abstractions it had in its code. -- Luca Beltrame - KDE Forums team KDE Science supporter GPG key ID: A29D259B -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

There doesn't seem to be one in the stock release, To get a weather widget i had to "Add widgets" then do "Get New widgets" and search for "weather" -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
