[opensuse-factory] Some thoughts about qtwebengine
Greetings. First of all, I kindly ask anyone to test Qupzilla from TW repo. After first release of Qt5.7 it just didn't work (crashes with ILL_ILLOPN on every page). With patch against glibc-2.24 it loads most of pages except with HTML5 (in my experience): one some pages it continues crash with SEGV_MAPERR. For example with right-click on youtube video. I've started searching and amateurish playing with building: Applied patches from Qt5.7.1 which should disable all null-pointer-checks, didn't help. Then I've added QMAKE_CFLAGS+="-fno-delete-null-pointer-checks"\ to spec. It did help. Now Qupzilla doesn't crashes. I don't use another webengine-based apps, but could check some if you ask. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
Qupzilla starts a for me, but the HTML content part is just flickering when moving the mouse pointer and doesn't show any content or page bookmarked by default, it is empty. When clicking to change the URL the input field immediately looses its focus. Clicking more times to the address bar let it crash. Not a good experience, it is unusable, in fact. 2016-10-06 10:07 GMT+02:00 Konstantin Voinov <kv@kott.no-ip.biz>:

Hi! Just had a quick check and Qupzilla works totally OK here (Tumbleweed updated with last snapshot). Tested on various website, including some HTML5 ones (even YouTube is fine, though I don't know whether it defaults to HMTL5 nowadays). Cheers! Yes, there are threading issues in nouveau, that can cause QtWebEngine to crash. See e.g. http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=997171. Installing the nvidia driver should fix it, or setting the environment variable "LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1" (see http://www.mesa3d.org/envvars.html). E.g. run ""LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 qupzilla" (setting it globally is probably not a good idea, as that will make all applications, including Plasma the desktop, to use software OpenGL rendering then) Kind Regards, Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

See e.g. http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=997171.
Btw, good news in that bug report, I suppose. Some WIP fixes for nouveau in this regard have been backported to 42.2:
Max Staudt <mstaudt@xxxxxxxx> changed: What |Removed |Added --------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Status|CONFIRMED |RESOLVED Resolution|--- |FIXED
--- Comment #11 from Max Staudt <mstaudt@xxxxxxxx> --- Backported the suggested patches to Leap 42.2:

Closing as FIXED.
This will hopefully improve things... Doesn't seem to be in Factory or X11:XOrg yet though AFAICS. Kind Regards, Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

The threading problems are in nouveau_dri.so. Not in the proprietary driver. No, that is correct. Likely unrelated to the crash discussed here though, I suppose. Kind Regards, Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

It can't be definitely the same bug like https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=98039, which is in nouveau_dri.so. And the backtrace discussed above in Qupzilla doesn't refer explicitly to the driver. Maybe a threading problem, but with the proprietary driver? I meant you should not be affected by those mentioned threading problems, which only seem to happen with nouveau and are caused by problems/limitations in nouveau itself. I'm not sure what the reason for your crash is. Maybe it is not related to the graphics driver at all, but a general problem? Recalling all other mails, nobody tried to reproduce that particular crash you mentioned with other drivers yet, IIRC.

Thanks. I had set the update repository to a lower priority, therefore it didn't come through at all in zypper dup. That is not the latest/patched version, which is only in the Update repo currently as has been pointed out already. Maybe you need to add the Update repo to your system? See https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Tumbleweed_upgrade#Repositories
But it is still compiled with Qt 5.6.1
No it isn't. How do you get the idea?

Sorry, this is a misunderstanding. At first, I'm using the proprietary graphics driver, exactly due to a couple of issues with nouveau. I was just missing the libqt5-qtwebengine updated from the TW update repository due to some misconfiguration. Now I'm fine with Qupzilla and can do some dedicated tests of crashes initially reported here. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I do working around and switching NVidia graphics drivers since using this hardware (provided that Tumbleweed is what I want, because it is a good experience otherwise). I've opened http://seasonvar.ru/serial-14402-VUZery-2-season.html. When turning the HTML 5 player on it is crashing, right.

And that's with the libqt6-qtwebengine from the Update channel for Tumbleweed? Cheers, Dominique

The package in Factory (and Tumbleweed) should have the necessary patches though: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/openSUSE:Factory/libqt5-qtwebengine Are you building yourself? Yes, by self. Factory repo doesn't have "Do-not-depend-on-Linux-4.5.patch" which is in Updates. Without it qtwebengine totally unusable. BTW, I tested package from update-repo, and have had crashes. My build works normally. Wolfgang Bauer писал 2016-10-06 19:23:

Yes, we submitted that to Factory (first) too, see https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/433324. But the submission process needs time (and the updated package will only be in a future snapshot which may be delayed as well for other reasons), that's the reason why we provide it in the Update repo currently.

You mean the added QMAKE_CFLAGS+="-fno-delete-null-pointer-checks" would be needed too for Factory? This should fix it then: https://build.opensuse.org/package/rdiff/KDE:Qt5/libqt5-qtwebengine?linkrev=base&rev=73 Kind Regards, Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
