[opensuse-factory] Plan to add kdumpid to Factory

Hi, I'd like to add kdumpid to Factory (https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/Kernel:kdump/kdumpid). This small utility can read an unknown kernel core file and determine the kernel version from it. It is very useful in conjunction with the crash utility if you happen to have a core file and don't know from which kernel version it was generated. Comments welcome. If there are none, I will create a submit request tomorrow. Does kdump work again in factory? (To be honest, I have not tried for the last year, it was always broken some way, last breakage being apparently systemd-related, I just gave up :-)

It sounds very useful, so go ahead and submit it to Factory, I'll then build it for SLES11SP1/2/3 :-) Best regards, seife -- Stefan Seyfried "If your lighter runs out of fluid or flint and stops making fire, and you can't be bothered to figure out about lighter fluid or flint, that is not Zippo's fault." -- bkw -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I don't know about factory but it works for me in 12.3. But I don't use systemd so if there is a systemd related problem, I wouldn't notice. Michal Kubeček -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

If you want it to sound that way, it certainly may sound that way to you. I just simply don't care about bugs in packages I don't use (except those I work on as part of my work, of course) - but it in no way means I think these packages should be kicked out of the distribution or even that I should actively create artificial barriers against people who would want to maintain them outside the official distribution. That's orthogonal to this submission. The kdumpid utility is good for analyzing already existing dumps (possibly from other systems).
I'm afraid I don't understand you. It has been building for all products since SLE_10 since its first version. See the Kernel:kdump project. But, hey you can also build it yourself if you want... ;-) Anyway, submitted now: https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/184432 Petr T -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
