RFC: turn off ppc32 and ppc64 big endian builds on openSUSE:Factory:PowerPC
If Debian is okay for your testing purposes, you can use the Debian images I am creating on a regular basis. These always contain the latest kernel in Debian unstable.
See:
https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/ports/snapshots/2023-06-18/
I would love to do the same for openSUSE, but I haven't found anyone to help me with the effort.
Would starting with your installer get me to a different place than regular 'apd update'/'apt upgrade'?
Larry
Larry: Why waste time running a new install, if you have a debian system already in place you should be able to edit the /etc/apt/sources.list file to whatever selection of repos will work with your machine. F

F Can you please send replies to the list, instead of off list. This way threads get broken all the time.

?? I don´t know what you are referring to . . . I am on digest because for the most part Iḿ just scanning threads . . . . OK, I found my way to the actual list-serve and I'm posting to it here as a test to see if total order is maintained or . . . total breakdown of the social order by emailing my posts into the fray. No links to this list are provided in the digest emails . . . only the email address . . . .

The horror . . . so as posted above I did find my way to the actual list-serve and I did post there, or here, in what would seem to be the broken thread. Mea culpa. But, as mentioned above, there are no instructions on "needing to post in the list" . . . and it seems like this behavior is **unique** to the new server for the list-serve?? Traditionally in list-serve, and I believe now in github, one can post there OR via email and it goes to the thread, without "breaking it"? In gmail there is no option for "reply to list" . . . just reply or "reply all." Anyway, I am modifying my anti-list behaviors . . . by posting directly within the list . . . now here in this errant thread.

I think the problem is that you are replying to the digest mail, which does not conserve the mail thread. I would advice to disable the digest and use a mail client that supports threads and allows to mark whole threads as read. Then even high volume lists are easy to read. This will not work with digest emails, because there is no proper reference possible (at least not for a normal email client). I don't understand why we even offer digest emails in the Mailing list software. This doesn't work from Digest emails, because you are replying to the bundled digest not the actual post, this is mainly why I stopped using them for any list I reply to. -- Simon Lees (Simotek) http://simotek.net Emergency Update Team keybase.io/simotek SUSE Linux Adelaide Australia, UTC+10:30 GPG Fingerprint: 5B87 DB9D 88DC F606 E489 CEC5 0922 C246 02F0 014B

So maybe we switch this option off? Or add a no-reply address as return, so evreybody gets aware that you should *not* use digests when you want to participate in a discussion? My 2c Axel

For how little this is practically an issue for us I think would be better if we as a community were more welcoming of the people using this feature who maybe have less experience with mailing lists. If you are someone who would like to regularly read the list but may only post / reply once a year then for high volume lists such as this the digest can become a much more manageable option. -- Simon Lees (Simotek) http://simotek.net Emergency Update Team keybase.io/simotek SUSE Linux Adelaide Australia, UTC+10:30 GPG Fingerprint: 5B87 DB9D 88DC F606 E489 CEC5 0922 C246 02F0 014B
If you are someone who would like to regularly read the list but may only post / reply once a year then for high volume lists such as this the digest can become a much more manageable option.
@Simon: This right here makes sense; for the most part the conversations are miles above my pay grade, but there are times when as an end user there is something to offer. Personally, as mentioned, other list-serves seem to be able to post emails **in the proper thread** . . . and folks seem to be emailing me, with the subject header included, so it appears folks can email out from the list, but not in?? And then, in the digest email is included the email address as "the place" . . . with no apparent link to the actual list, either in the openSUSE web site, or in the digest . . . I had to search the lowly googly to find this list . . . part way down. So, I have now hopefully modified my behavior as requested, but I still prefer the option for digest, other stuff to do, etc. F
