[opensuse-factory] Updating in general ?
Hi. Maybe it' has been written many times before, but I haven't seen it. Next time I want to upgrade from 10.3 to 11.0 Is it possible, and how to do it ?. Boot the 11.0 dvd, follow the instructions. When asked, say you want to upgrade an existing system. Advice #1: full backup first. Advice #2: full backup first. Fully agreed. Advice #3: Don't upgrade but clean install after having followed advice #1 and #2. Said by another one that used to upgrade and wasted a lot of time to try and fix a broken installation afterwards. That's daring! :-) I did upgrade my factory to factory, from 10.3 to 11.0 beta, and then to many betas after, via "zypper dup". But I guess that doesn't count as "upgrade". - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Upgrading during betas with zypper dup is chickenfeed compared to upgrading a seasoned 10.3 ( or earlier ) installation to 11.0 GM You may easily check the bugs I filed or got involved with at https://bugzilla.novell.com/buglist.cgi?query_format=advanced&short_desc_type=fulltext&short_desc=&long_desc_type=fulltext&long_desc=&bug_file_loc_type=allwordssubstr&bug_file_loc=&status_whiteboard_type=allwordssubstr&status_whiteboard=&keywords_type=anywords&keywords=&bug_status=UNCONFIRMED&bug_status=NEW&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=NEEDINFO&bug_status=REOPENED&bug_status=RESOLVED&bug_status=VERIFIED&bug_status=CLOSED&emailassigned_to1=1&emailreporter1=1&emailinfoprovider1=1&emailqa_contact1=1&emailcc1=1&emaillongdesc1=1&emailtype1=substring&email1=casualprogrammer&emailassigned_to2=1&emailreporter2=1&emailqa_contact2=1&emailcc2=1&emailtype2=substring&email2=&bugidtype=include&bug_id=&votes=&chfieldfrom=&chfieldto=Now&chfieldvalue=&cmdtype=doit&order=Reuse+same+sort+as+last+time&field0-0-0=noop&type0-0-0=noop&value0-0-0= Casual --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

All those are upgrade-related? They don't appear to me to be, from a cursory glance. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Nay! Do full backup, attempt upgrade. If it fails, then either a) restore backup, attempt again knowing why it failed and how to avoid it, or b) install fresh. :-P I only have had one failed upgrade, from 7.3 to 8.1. Upgrades actually save me time, my setup is complex. For other people (less experienced or with simpler setups) a fresh install is advisable. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
