[opensuse-factory] Leap 42.1 for workstations and servers
According to the 'openSUSE:Leap' site, the target audience are in general people who are looking for a stable LTS base for workstations and servers. The 'release notes' for M2 adds that “Milestone 2 is realistic to use for non-critical production servers". I would like to tell that I already have installed 42.1 M2 on my two home stationary and mobile workstations with AMD and Nvidia graphics in dual and triple boot with 13.2 and TW. I'm missing and waiting for Remmina as posted. Another minor yet useful detail is that I haven't found again on Gnome 3.16 Network manager where to get openVPN automatic connected as on 3.14.3. Now I have also installed M2 on my office workstation in dual boot with 13.2. I can confirm to the above that 42.1 looks very promising so far by testing it for my work envirionment using shared /home for Mozilla Firefox, Thunderbird email client (IMAP to Groupwise server), setup of networked Lexmark PS laserprinter and HP PS Designjet plotter. And on my office Supermicro workstation where I have had to use the Nvidia proprietary driver on 13.2 to support Nvidia GM206 [GeForce GTX960] and Asus VN279 at 1920x1080 resolution, this now works out-of-box with 42.1 Nouveau. The only thing I wonder is if it would be possible to get different Gnome versions, like the current 3.14.4 on 13.2 and 3.16.3 on 42.1, to use separate installed extensions streamlined on shared /home ? Up to now installing incompatible extensions versions (i.e Dash to Dock) overwrite each-other, and they have to be reinstalled at next boot of a root using another Gnome version?? Thanks, Terje J. The latter was 'hidden' here: Network Tools -> Configure Ethernet Interface --> Network Connections -> Edit Wired Connection 1 -> General ---> Autmatically connect VPN when using this connection
