[opensuse-factory] [Alpha4 installation] SSH port is blocked - and I can't open it and other remarks
Hello all ############# # Problem # 1 ############# When I install openSUSE-10.3-Alpha4 I can't open the SSH port Problem details In the "Network configuration" window under the section "Firewall", the default is "* SSH port is blocked (open)" Despite clicking on (open) multiple times I couldn't get it to open Also I opened up the Firewall Configuration: Start-Up" window and selected "Allowed Services" and tried. No change. I tried removing SSH which was already present and re adding it. The "SSH port is blocked (open)" was still the active choice. ############# # Problem # 2 ############# Adding extra applications to the "default application pattern" is next to impossible (this is already been noted in the email "Alpha4 dependencies validation". I managed to a "smart" but if I didn't have the patiences to add anything else because it takes too long - I did manage to add one other application and there was a second wait when the "Evaluating package selection" just kept turning away.... way too long for my patience.. I finally gave up and re started the installation process (where I just added smart) because I figured it was faster. ############## # My wish list ############## Add smart to the "default application pattern". Problem details
In the "Network configuration" window under the section "Firewall", the default is "* SSH port is blocked (open)"
Despite clicking on (open) multiple times I couldn't get it to open
Also I opened up the Firewall Configuration: Start-Up" window and selected "Allowed Services" and tried. No change. I tried removing SSH which was already present and re adding it. The "SSH port is blocked (open)" was still the active choice.
what if network adapter is moved to internal zone?
############# # Problem # 2 #############
Adding extra applications to the "default application pattern" is next to impossible (this is already been noted in the email "Alpha4 dependencies validation".

Yes, it's already in bugzilla :) Duplicate of https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=274761 SSH port got enabled when clicking on (open), nevertheless the Firewall summary kept showing "disabled" because it checked for another service. Just a problem of defining one variable at two places ;) Anyway, it seems to be fixed (new package should be in FACTORY soon) and you can test it even on a running system via: `/sbin/yast2 test_proposal network` (Be careful, clicking [Next!] would write a new network configuration). Can any peons read this yet, or is still open only to Novell employees and support subscribers?

Maybe some kind soul will backport this fix to previous versions. -- Moral indignation is jealousy with a halo. -- HG Wells --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I submitted the same bug months ago. It just got marked a duplicate of a bug that none of us will ever be able to read (because it was first raised against SLED 9). Yours will suffer the same fate. -- Moral indignation is jealousy with a halo. -- HG Wells --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

That is a problem which has been in every version of Yast since SLED 9 and SuSE 9.3. You cannot configure any services on the external zone in this section. Instead, use the sysconfig editor.

You can just single-click on it on this entry to open ssh. Ciao, Marcus --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
