systemd default target = multi users + graphical Here if I let systemd starting I get X then in a session if I ask init 3 Xorg stop Start to read and try man systemctl default Enter default mode. This is mostly equivalent to start default.target. rescue Enter rescue mode. This is mostly equivalent to isolate rescue.target but also prints a wall message to all users. emergency Enter emergency mode. This is mostly equivalent to isolate emergency.target but also prints a wall message to all users. -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member & Ambassador GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Well... I see nothing to start a server without starting X, but this man page is pretty hard to follow. Any idea of the prefered way? I have several server where X is installed, but rarely used and I don't want them to have X lauched as default thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
Hi,
Any idea of the prefered way? I have several server where X is installed, but rarely used and I don't want them to have X lauched as default I've just tested on my Virtual Machine with 12.1 RC2, using systemd and adding "3" to the GRUB menu (I mean while booting) booted the 3rd runlevel. I have network, no X and.. Hmm everything's fine.

Same with me in a VM. When I type 3 in the boot menu the system does not start the xdm service. So I don't get the KDE login menu, only the console login prompt. # rckdm start does not work, nor # systemctl start kdm.service but # systemctl start xdm.service works and I get the KDE login screen. So if you don't want the xdm.service to be started you can disable it with: # systemctl disable xdm.service I assume it is enabled by default. -- fr.gr. I'm no on an other computer (in an other location), and like you, if I add "3" on the commande line, I get the text networked session. given all my installs are upgrades from older (sometime very older) installs, may be there is a file somewhere remaining that cause problems, or may be it's the hardware debugging is an endless task :-)) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net " -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Adding a 3 to my GRUB options line booted to a command line on my real machine as well. For some reason, there was about a 40-second pause just after all partitions were mounted, but it booted. As my network is controlled by NM, it was not running, but no X. The pause is most likely other services being started but not reported like they were with init. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

It looked like a crash to, so I ctrl-alt-supr, then powercycled. Twice. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. SuSE used to have runlevel 3 as the graphical multiuser login with network, many many years ago. Anders -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
