this message doesn't tell me very much. didn't want to get into kernel debugging just yet; if you could let us know on this list when it's safe to update to kernel 2.6.31-9.1, i'd appreciate that a lot. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Next kernel will be 2.6.31-10.x (or something newer if other commits are necessary). This will hopefully synced out in Factory soon. If you have a computer that boots with it. No chance with mine. A ran into it. So maybe others should know a temporary solution. Hans-Peter -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

isn't it possible to take that kernel out of the factory repo? ok, factory isn't guaranteed to work, but i guess many people will update as usual, having their systems crash. i didn't do it because it wanted to downgrade some kernel dependencies, and i thought let me wait until that gets resolved w/o downgrade. lucky me... -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

FWIW I happened to upgrade to kernel-default 2.6.31-9.1 i586 before I saw this message, on a Factory system running in VirtualBox and I see no problems (ACPI is enabled). So YMMV. Yes, on a second system (real hardware with non-crippled ACPI-Implementation as it is on my Fujitsu Amilo Xi 2428) all went fine. Hans-Peter -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I think the answer is no. Why? Factory is by definition a working place. Human beings contribute to it. Then this work is published independently, means: noone has the resources to test on all environments what her/his commit will introduce new bugs. It's a fact that this _can_ break something. And it's a fact that critical bugs force the developers doing something. In this case thomas reverted jeff's commit. With next sync of Factory we will see success or failure. And what can one do who uses Factory? Again treat is as a working place, not as a distribution. yes, you're right.

again, yes. i do treat it as a distribution at present. i installed M6 intending to find bugs, but could find nothing that hadn't been reported already. then i just kept using it, updating from factory. if that causes me problems, it's my own fault, of course. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

The -10 kernel has build a couple of hours ago and a new sync of factory will happen in the next few hours. Coolo did everything to get a fixed package out asap... Apologies for the trouble here. I had tested it on my system successfully but I guess it ran into trouble later on. I have an idea of what went wrong and will fix it as soon as I can. Unfortunately, I'm in the middle of a move right now and don't actually have test systems and "real" internet access so it may be a few days. The workaround of disabling it will work for now, but I don't want to leave the users affected by crappy stock DSDTs out in the cold. I believe the cause may be invalid __init annotations, as Jan Beulich pointed out to me privately. Sorry for the inconvenience, but sometimes life on the bleeding edge can be unpleasant.
