[opensuse-factory] fontinfo.opensuse.org
Hi List, be informed that there is new fontinfo.opensuse.org, which tries to make an overview of M17N:fonts. Main features: (1) list of all font families residing in M17N:fonts, (2) several specimens for each font to illustrate its look when used by most covered scripts by that font, (3) rendering algorithm information plus png and svg specimen for each script and font, which can be used for debuging fontconfig setup, (4) software package information for each font including posibility to one-click-install, (5) index fonts by supported languages, (6) index fonts by supported scripts, (7) index families by font format. fontinfo is not done. For example, png specimens are created purely by freetype, which excludes OpenType support[*]. Also specimen sentences for some scripts might not be absolutely correct for some scripts (report!). Other suggestions and issue reports are welcome, as always. Petr [*] That can be nicely seen for e. g. adinatha-fonts (Adinatha Tamil Brahmi font family) when switching between png and svg specimen. This is my TODO #1.

if I understand correctly, there's not something like math unicode script[1]. But we could do similar index for unicode blocks as defined in [2]. That should resolve your problem, right? Hi Petr, I do not know exactly how the existence of math scripts can be found. What I know is from a practical perspective. I use lualatex to compile some documents and what I get is Math script not available. this is what I get. ************************************************* * fontspec warning: "script-not-exist-latn" * * Font 'OpenSansLight' does not contain script 'Math'. * 'Latin' script used instead. ************************************************* math symbols are spread over few unicode blocks iirc. Would be nice to have it... but if it is too complex maybe not. regards, Alin On Fri 08 Nov 2013 10:04:12 Petr Gajdos wrote:

Alin,

I have introduced 'collections', see http://fontinfo.opensuse.org/scripts.html#collections Thanks, Petr

Speaking of scripts, mplus-fonts (name="M+ ...") really shows when using… some 日本語 characters for the specimen. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
Hi, Petr, I checked it and here's the leaf problem I found: In "Supported Languages": | za (Zhuang) | zh-cn (unknown) | zh-hk (unknown) | zh-mo (unknown) | zh-sg (unknown) | zh-tw (unknown) | zu (Zulu) | Need my help to figure out what're this zh-* languages? or it's automatically generated that the Chinese fonts actually have problems to identify their languages? it is automatically generated from http://www.iana.org/assignments/language-subtag-registry/language-subtag-reg... (maybe there is better source somewhere else?) We should simply remove brackets with the 'unknown' inside. Thanks! Petr

I know the reason... There're a few naming schemes for Simplified Chinese: zh-hans. used in wiki eg: http://opensuse-community.org/Welcome_to_openSUSE-Community.org/zh-hans zh_CN. used in eg: http://software.opensuse.org/123/zh_CN, and this tag in specfile: Provides: locale(zh_TW;zh_CN;zh_SG) But the naming scheme you used doesn't appear in any of our sources...interestingly, the "zh-cn" string on fontinfo.o.o can't be found in our sources either...unless it's a bundled string in the font source. Jan, could you please elaborate more, what's wrong? Thanks! Petr
And two more leaf problems: http://fontinfo.opensuse.org/fonts/WenQuanYiMicroHeiRegular.html Just open this page...it's so laggy...crashed my chromium...rendering problem? And I suggest we'd better not use Japanese characters for a Chinese font's preview... Usually open source Chinese fonts use this in preview text: 我能吞玻璃而不伤身体哦 我能吞玻璃而不傷身體哦 Just like the “The Quick Brown Fox Jumps Over The Lazy Dog”. It is simply too huge. Maybe we could think about some optimalizations of charset when too long?

Have you click on 'Han' above the specimen? Is the sentence there correct? Or should we use that one you suggested? Thanks! Petr

Yep...please...I don't know how you did with this wqy-microhei...but it has 36000+ chars and 7mb size...we certainly don't want load it as a whole...

Yes it's correct...so I triggered a false alarm... Marguerite -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I had to split long charsets into parts, yet, because firefox won't load pngs with a dimension exceeding certain threshold :). So we could use this mechanism and display only first part of the charset and download the rest on demand.

Never mind, I have added strings you provide into sentences file of the generator. Thanks! Petr

I think, the paratype-pt-*-fonts supported languages list isn't complete. Please, see at the bottom of the page http://www.paratype.com/public/ "all official and almost all minority languages of Russian Federation" Thanks for your work. -- WBR Kyrill

I see, for example even first one, Abazin, is not listed, but Bashkir is. That's because I choose to use fontconfig for generating language list and it should be the same result as fc-query /usr/share/fonts/truetype/PTF55F.ttf is giving you. If I understand correctly, fontconfig language definitions are here: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/fontconfig/tree/fc-lang So you would have to either add definitions for missing languages there (see also iso-3166.txt there) or propose better method ;). Thanks! Petr
