[opensuse-factory] New packages: libstfl, newsbeuter
Upon a request from Greg, I'd like to propose the following
packages to be included in Factory:
* libstfl
* newsbeuter
Note that libstfl is only there because it's a dependency to newsbeuter.
An alternative approach would be to have libstfl as a static in-tree build
inside the newsbeuter package, as it isn't used by anything else at this point.
===================================
libstfl (devel:libraries:c_c++)
===================================
"Structured Terminal Forms Library"
"STFL is a library which implements a curses-based widget set for text
terminals.
The STFL API can be used from C, SPL, Python, Perl and Ruby. Since the API is
only 14 simple function calls big and there are already generic SWIG bindings
it is very easy to port STFL to additional scripting languages. A special
language (the Structured Terminal Forms Language) is used to describe STFL
GUIs. The language is designed to be easy and fast to write so an application
programmer does not need to spend ages fiddling around with the GUI and can
concentrate on the more interesting programming tasks."
Note that the spec file does not build the python, perl and ruby bindings, as
it is currently only needed as a dependency for newsbeuter (and I'm not aware
of any other application that needs it).
First revision of that package there is 2008-08-21.
Development is very slow, up to now it averages to one release per year, to me
it's really in maintenance mode more than anything else.
Mailing-list: http://www.rocklinux.net/mailman/listinfo/stfl (barely any activity)

Dependencies:
* ncurses-devel

newsbeuter (network:utilities)

"RSS/Atom Feed Reader for Text Terminals"
"Newsbeuter is an open-source RSS/Atom feed reader for text terminals. It runs
on Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X and other Unix-like operating systems. Newsbeuter's
great configurability and vast number of features make it a perfect choice for
people that need a slick and fast feed reader that can be completely controlled
via keyboard."
Hence, it's a feedreader for the console.
First revision is 2008-08-22.
Development is rather slow too, but it's still being maintained as far as I can
see.
Currently has 40 open issues and feature requests, none of them security related.

Dependencies:

* zlib-devel
* libxml2-devel
* sqlite3-devel
* libopenssl-devel
* libcurl-devel
* gcc-c++
* lynx (OPTIONAL)

Cool! I use newsbeuter (from network:utilites) every day and it works perfectly. Petr -- Petr Uzel IRC: ptr_uzl @ freenode

Filed as SRs 57274 (libstfl from devel:libraries:c_c++) and
57276 (newsbeuter from network:utilities).
BTW, do I need to do anything else? The wiki page on how to make
factory submissions assumes that it's a new project and a new
package, not an existing one in another project.

That should be all you need. Which wiki page did you look at? http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:How_to_contribute_to_Factory#Adding_a_packag... seems to be okay.
