[opensuse-factory] Planning w.r.t. Packages and Versions
Hello all, I've tried this question on the opensuse-project ML, but with not so many responses. So hopefully here's a more suitable place to ask. :-) I'm trying to do some mid-term planning for a couple of our projects. For that it'd be very helpful to know how certain packages will evolve over the next couple of versions: Looking at Leap 42.1 we currently have - wxWidgets 2.8.12 (as well as the more recent 3.0.x) - DeviceKit-disks (contained in udisks-1.0.5) - Ruby 2.1 - X.org 7.6 What are the odds that wxWidgets 2.8.12 and DeviceKit-disks (udisks-1.0.5) will still be kept for 42.2 or 42.3? How about Ruby and X.org? Will it simply be the version of these packages that are current a few months before the release of 42.x? Any insights, guesses, hints, ... will be greatly appreciated! Let me answer it in the negative: wxWidgets 2.8 will be removed when one of the following holds: - it fails to build and no one bothers to take care of it - or if nothing else depends on it anymore -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Same for udisks which was meant to be replaced by udisks2 years ago. cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Both come from the SLE base system so it depends on whether SLE upgrades them. cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Ack. IIRC, packages like Ruby are updated somewhat more frequently than others in SLE. Where do I find more information about the upgrade policy/decisions of SLE w.r.t to these packages? I have no answer to that. If you are also a SLE customer my advice would be to use the contacts you have that way to raise your use case and/or requirements. Otherwise follow the Leap 42.2 development closely and voice your opinion when such things are discussed. Most things are not set in stone after all :-) Right now it's a bit too early still. cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
