[opensuse-factory] cotrib repository: progress discussion
Hi All, Since nothing seems to happen recently, I would like to discuss the reviewers (contrib-maintainers) and maintainers (package-maintainers) So far only few people agreed to become reviewers - Alexey "Technologov" (al4321@gmail.com) - Pascal Bleser User:Pbleser (yaloki) And few are considering it: -Martin Schlander <martin.schlander@gmail.com>) -Michal Marek (User:Michal-m) -Anyone else? By taking this chance, I would like to ask other participators what they think (or decided). After that I will ask coolo nicely to give reviewers the write access permissions so we can handle our job. -- -Alexey Eromenko "Technologov" --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I will participate doing package review/cleanup, however we are far away from that atm
we need to have
a) a package list http://en.opensuse.org/Contrib/packages
b) a set of mantainers At first, reviwers will be maintainers for the few packages, that they have personal interest in.
c) a set of clear policies for this specific repository http://en.opensuse.org/Contrib
d) a timeframe to get things done, this cannot take forever. I would like to have at least 2 packages in contrib by the time of openSUSE 11.1 BETA1 release. (~1 month)
----------------------- Pavol Rusnak and Michal Vyskocil: First add yourselfs to the list of interested people. http://en.opensuse.org/Contrib Speaking about requirement: I think there shouldn't be too much formal requirements, not for maintainers and not for reviewers. But both should know the basics of OBS and RPM construction. Commitment to the job - it does matters. Very important. -- -Alexey Eromenko "Technologov" --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I don't think my packaging and OBS skills are adequate for the job. But I'll try to help the contrib project in other ways. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I think having super-powers in Contrib is attractive enough that you'll find enough people willing to become reviewers ;), given that only few are needed. How about package maintainers? From http://en.opensuse.org/Contrib/packages, iperf, banner and twin are maintained by you, webpin by Pascal. What about the rest: httrack, unionfs, python-translate-toolkit - did we ask the maintainers if they wish to participate? And are there enough volunteers to package the remaining packages? I think I will take over maintenance of httrack. -- -Alexey Eromenko "Technologov" --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Done.
Idea - improvement of contrib/packages:
Make a wiki table, that will have:
-include description of packages -maintainer(s) -links (upstream+OBS) -comments -review status
I created tables with package | maintainer | maintained where | remark If we are going to do reviews via wiki, a column can be added later. Very good. I think reviews can be discussed here, on the mailing-list, but results (intermediate or final) should be kept on the table, as it is easier to understand the whole picture that way. -- -Alexey Eromenko "Technologov" --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Can we have a little IRC meeting with the reviewers, so we can agree on the naming and I add maintainers and packages to the project? I have some packages that I would like to see in contrib :) Greetings, Stephan --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Yes of course, but if possible, please delay until tomorrow or next week (as today I really can't). If delay impossible, then I will read the IRC archive, and we will discuss later on mailing-list.

Really !? It is strange to hear that from you, because you are the one, who decides what goes into Factory :) Feel free to add candidates, as you see fit, to: http://en.opensuse.org/Contrib/packages -- -Alexey Eromenko "Technologov" --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Well, I have packages in home:coolo that I don't want to have in Factory (maintaining two years and all that) and I have packages in Factory, that I would rather move into a contrib repo than drop it completely (e.g. abcde) Greetings, Stephan --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
