[opensuse-factory] Issues with Tumbleweed, graficscard AMD RX 460 , Kernel 4.7.2-1
Hi, I had to replace the graficscard in my opensuse 13.2 desktop computer. After a little research I choose a "newer" AMD RX 460 expecting it to run with the open source driver better on a freshly installed Tumbleweed than on my suse 13.2. Success (!), it runs much better, apart from four issues, which may be related to the graficscard. 1) When the computer is booted I see two messages: 3.342677] amdgpu 0000:01:00.0: Invalid PCI ROM header signature: expecting 0xaa55, got 0xffff 5.566632] sp5100_tco: I/O address 0x0cd6 already in use After a very short pause booting continuous as it should and I can work with the computer. Unfortunately three other issues have turned up: 2) It is not possible changing with Yast the boot-loader kernel-parameter splash= silent to splash=verbose, Top tells me the CPU-load raises to 100% i.e 25% (4-core AMD-processor) and that is it. I have to kill y2base. 3) The same with Yast and hardware-information: 100% CPU-load, stopps at 25% "results" (framebuffer???), can only be left by killing y2base. 4) A new kernel arrived yesterday, 4.7.2 -1.2. I set the computer to init level 2 and tried zypper refresh, zypper up. Everything was downloaded. Checking for conflicts successful to 51% then CPU-load 200% no further progress for at least 3 minutes. I stopped it with <ctrl><c>. Presently the computer boots according to dmesg with: [ 0.000000] Linux version 4.7.2-1-default (geeko@buildhost) (gcc version 6.1.1 20160815 [gcc-6-branch revision 239479] (SUSE Linux) ) #1 SMP PREEMPT Sun Aug 21 08:59:11 UTC 2016 (34ba8d6) [ 0.000000] Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.7.2-1-default root=UUID=7ad5e8ea-1f2a-4da6-8c17-d0bb10ec5c18 resume=/dev/sdb3 splash=silent quiet showopts Any ideas? cu Peter -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
Hi , openSUSE 13.2 is to old for this new GPU ... ( also Leap 42.1) ... you need openSUSE:Tumbleweed (right ) + xf86-video-amdgpu driver + good thing for this card is kernel version 4.8+ from KOTD repository 2) looks as bug in yast ... and 3) in zypper ... lines from dmesg show is used older kernel On 31 August 2016 at 22:49, Peter Mc Donough <mcd-mail-lists@gmx.net> wrote:

Oh dear, this will probably break virtualbox. I'll have to wait until that is sorted out with kernel 4.8
2) looks as bug in yast ... and 3) in zypper ...
I'll block the kernel-update and see what the other updates bring into my system.
lines from dmesg show is used older kernel
Yep, no new kernel without zypper. Thanks Peter -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
