I will try something on studio :-)
trying to do the late work, I built a minimal rescue cd: http://susestudio.com/appliance/edit/265519 (name jdd_rescue) when I boot (on virtualbox) with this cd, I get the normal terminal. I have the network and so could launch yast and install kexec. but with the command line given on bugzilla https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=432929 I just get a black screen. I yet have to test some of the data given below (just as reference), ,thanks to dave Plater
the simplest is kexec -l /path to boot/vmlinuz --initrd=initrd --append=
. The kernel to be started in this case is the default one vmlinuz but it and initrd can be specified with versions. Second stage is - kexec -e which starts the kernel. I've tried this from a console in the 11.2 installation system from dvd and in the rescue system. Before kexec you have to mount /boot from the installed system. The kexec options --append= could be extracted from the bootloader if it exists otherwise the script needs to find root and swap. See man (8) kexec
