HI I'm having a few issues understanding this kwallet. I works fine on one of my logins, kmail opens it silently and gets what it needs. But on this login a kmail account will randomly ask for access to kwallet even though i've said "allow always". What is the difference between "kwalletd" and "kwalletd5" ? "kwalletd5" is running from the outset but "kwalletd" only loads and runs when i access kmail (or for some reason chromium or opera), as soon as it asks for acccess, "kwalletd" is the one doing the work (according to "System Activity") regards Ian -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

One is for kdelibs 4.x applications (kwalletd), the other for KF5 based apps. The latter auto-imports data from the former on first start. -- Luca Beltrame - KDE Forums team KDE Science supporter GPG key ID: 6E1A4E79 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

The problem i am having is that kmail doesn't remember its already accessed the wallet so with each new login session it reasks for access to the wallet for one of my 2 email accounts (it alternates with each new session). I think i'll delete the kwallet config and try to recreate it all again to see if they cures my pain. Will Kwallet5 eventually be accessible via systemsettings5 like it currently is under KDE4? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Hi, In the future yes, the kwalletmanager5 is still in development and for this reason only exists in KDE:Unstable:Frameworks. I installed it for changing the password and then uninstalled. No idea whether the data structure has changed, but the main reason for a new version is of course that this one is based on KF5 not KDE4 I'd say. And you still need the old one for KDE4 applications, as mentioned. So they have to be co-installable and must not have the same executable name either. I didn;t realise a non-gui daemon would be affected by this framework change.

Hi all, But what will happen if kdepim starts to use kwallet5? It is nice that kwallet5 imports passwords from the old kwallet the first time around... But what if I create new accounts in kdepim now? Will those passwords be imported in kwallet5 ever? Or will this bite us when kdepim makes the switch? Well, KDE Frameworks and Qt contain much more than just GUI stuff. Things like localisation, command line parameter handling, file handling, configuration, process handling, DBUS convenience functions, additional data structures (fully UTF-based strings, lists, hashes, ...) and so on. Yes. It will ask the user whether it should do so, though. But if you set an empty password, kwalletd (neither 4 nor 5) will ask for a password at all. So maybe that's the difference on your systems? You can use kwalletmanager (or KDE4's systemsettings/"Configure Desktop") to change the password for the KDE4 wallet. Other possibilities I can think of at the moment: - you installed kwallet-pam (or whatever it is called), that would open the wallet automatically on login - you chose to use a GPG key instead of a password Kind Regards, Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

that solved the problem of not asking for a password on opening the wallet by applications. thanks

in my many and various attempts to get the wallet i wanted i had delete wallets and i found that it had left a "salt" laying around so when you ran kwalletmanager it seemed to recreate the missing "kwl" file.
Kind Regards, Wolfgang

I'm guessing a bit but I would say , as kdepim is still kde4based, its still using the kwalletd from kde4 and all apps which are KF5 based are using the new kwalletd5, which is the one loaded at login? Could it be that the migration went wrong as I do not have the same issue. Thx Stefan

I think you are correct, kwalletd5 is loaded at login and kwalletd appears when i launch kmail. I'm only using kmail, a browser and libreoffice . I've not done any migration as its a new user. My kmail has 2 accounts it checks, and it alternately asks for the kwallet password for each account but only asks for one each new login session.
Could it be that the migration went wrong as I do not have the same issue. I don;t have this issue on my old user login which has quite a few email accounts etc configured in kwallet. it just seems related to this new user. i think i'll have to delete the current config and start again adding to kwallet.
Thx
