[opensuse-factory] Problems with Broadcom BCM4312 on Net/Notebooks
Sorry to drag this issue up again but I have the exact same issue with my hp pavilion dv7-2230sa after install it freezes at the mentioned point during initial reset. I cannot boot at all without failsafe and even then I get random freezing. If I upgrade the kernel to .35 would that fix the problem or cause more dependency problems than it solves? I can run the script to get the firnware but would really like it to just boot first time everytime. Larry is this totally different issue because the installation media boots first time. Next time my insurance replaces my laptop I will ask what wifi card it has to avoid this hassle!! Broadcom should be banned!!! Or release the firmware to opensource community! Missing firmware will not cause a freezing problem, either on boot or later. That is some other problem. Will your machine boot in full mode with the Boot option "brokenmodules=ssb"? If not, then the Broadcom device is not at fault. In that case, try booting with Boot Option "nomodeset". That will disable the new graphics drivers and use the frame buffer device. Using kernel 2.6.35 will fix the issue where the Broadcom device causes the freezing. It might also fix some issues with the graphics drivers. Well I installed x86_64 from dvd but my broadcom isn't detected at all. Only ethernet in list of lan cards its booting fine from full mode now.
I will try irc to figure why no lan driver installed unless you have any suggestions?
I installed the firnware but the cards not listed.
In theory, this should help: http://old-en.opensuse.org/HCL/Network_Adapters_%28Wireless%29/Broadcom_BCM4... But I've been having trouble getting my 4312 working even with the STA driver from Packman. (I'm not clear if that should be in Packman or not. It's been there since 11.1 days, but maybe the license should have kept it out.) You should check "lspci -nnk" to see if PCI sees it. If it does, then check dmesg to see why it is not making a wireless device. Larry -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
