[opensuse-factory] Where in those KDE 3.5.4a menus is kcontrol hiding
Awful, awful, awful is the only way I can describe the behavior of the new menus. I never liked real sliding doors, and I don't like these either. Is there some config setting somewhere that will bring back the many years old tree/branch behavior? If so, where? I looked in the menus for Kcontrol/Personal Settings/Control Center for at least 3 minutes before giving up and going to Konsole to type in kcontrol. -- "Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. I have to admit that the new sliders are not so handy. You cannot look fast tru the menu but I guess that we have a searchbox for that now. I don't like the content of the tabs neither but hey, we can still work on that one.

You would almost think that it is under "rightclick taksbar >> menu's". Oh wait: it is! :P

Have to say that the new start-icon is the wors thing I have seen in many yers. Funny little eye but please give us back the old one or at least something better! My taskbar extends the full width of the screen. When I want to configure something that is a part of it, I click a blank area, not any icon, to ensure I'm not configuring whatever the icon represents. When I do that, there is nothing with the word "menu" in it that pops up. It never occurred to me to right click on the lizard icon, because as soon as I hover it, it automatically pops up the starter, luring me into thinking there is no other option but to choose from the menu that automatically popped up. -- "Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. No whining, please.

You obviously gave up very early, because the option is not hidden at all: Right-click the chameleon and choose "Switch to KDE Menu Style" from the context menu. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

The fastest way is to right-click the button and "Switch to KDE Menu Style".

Wow, that must be a new negative record. It's right in the "Favorites" and searching for any of above three terms would have also found it for you. Have to say that it is possible that he allready did this. When I tried the menu came up and not the ehmmm..menu. So I could not click that option. Took me a few times before it went okey. So that's the fastest way. :-p What about the expected way, in Kcontrol?

There is no "Favorites" here. There is a "My Favorites", which is not where I would expect to find basic setup/configuration. Actually, anything preconfigured to windoz-speak the word "My" automatically makes my brain say look elsewhere. Now that I look at that windoz style panel I see "Configure Desktop" (not control center, not kcontrol, not personal settings), but I had already: 1-right clicked the desktop in order to configure the desktop, expecting to configure the desktop, not the menus, and as expected, saw nothing about menus there 2-right clicked the taskbar, where the menu starter finds its home, expecting to find menu configuration as well as other taskbar item configuration, but found nothing about menus I also see that I wouldn't have seen. The menu choices are barely big enough to see. The subtitles are much too small and faint. Last time I tried "search" in KDE on SUSE it took 3.5 hours while it built a database. That was quite some time ago, and I've never again attempted search from any KDE menu. -- "Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding. That is also there. On the "Menus" tab check the "Classic K Menu" box.

I guess we will not change the menu because of your special problem ;-)...

That sounds like you tried to search documentation in the KDE Helpcenter. But the search in the start menu is different, you should really try it. :-) Bye, Steve --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Have to admit, the search is very cool. Now let's work on the 'ba'd point and we may have a better start-menu.
